Be it known that I, JAMES Knrion, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes- Line Attachments for Vindows, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to clothes line attachments for windows, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which may be connected with one side of a window frame and which will serve as a partial attachment or support for an endless clothes line, the other attachment or support being at a predetermined distance from the window; a further object being to provide a window attachment of the class specified having a part or member with which, in practice, the line is connected, said part or member being adapted to be swung into the room or compartment inwardly of said window in order to facilitate the placing of the garments or other articles to be dried on the line without danger to the operator, and being also adapted to be swung outwardly of said window after the garments or other articles have been placed on the line, the said attachment being also provided with means for locking the folded part or member in either position and with means for holding the line taut when the said folding part or member is in its outermost position.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the sepa rate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a central vertical section of a part of the wall of a building and of a window frame mounted therein and showing my improvement connected with one side there of;Fig. 2 a horizontal section on the line 22 of Fig. l and showing the parts in a different position ;-Fig. 3 a partial sectional side view of the attachment, the section being taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and ;Fig. 4; a transverse section of the attachment on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.

In the drawing forming part of this specification I have shown at a a part of the wall of a house'and at b one side of a window frame mounted therein, and in practice I secure to the outer vertical angle 72 of the window frame a bracket arm 0, below which is a shorter bracket arm cl, below which is another bracket arm 0, all of said bracket arms bein secured to the side of the window frame in the same manner and projecting from the outer corner 72 thereof at an angle of 135 degrees to the face ofv the window frame, in the form of construct-ion shown, and a similar angle to the outer face of the wall a and the bracket arm 6 and e are preferably of the same length.

Mounted in the bracket arm 0 and pivoted in the bracket arm 0 is a vertically arranged shaft 7 which is rotatable in the bracket arm 0, and the upper end portion of which is provided with a hook f and an extension 7, which is angular in cross section and con nected with the shaft f between the bracket arms 0 and c, is an arm f of predetermined length and provided with an upright extension F, with which is connected a pulley g.

The bracket arms 0 and (Z are provided with apertures c and (Z which are angular in form and mounted therein is a vertically movable rod or bar 72. provided at its upper end with a right angle projection [L2, and with a handle member if, and the right angle projection k of the rod or bar it is provided with an angular aperture It through which the angular extension 7 at the top of the shaft f is adapted to pass.

In practice a pole or other support is provided at a predetermined distance from the window, and said support is provided with a pulley around which the line i is passed, said line being also passed around the pulley g, and whenever it is desired to place garments or other articles on the line, to be dried, the bottom window sash is raised, the rod or bar it is raised by means of the handle 7?, or by taking hold of the angular extension k thereof, and the arm f is turned inwardly as shown in full lines in Fig. 1 and dotted lines in Fig. 2, and when the said arm is in this position the garments or other articles may be hung on the line 2' without danger to the operator, and said line may be pulled around the pulley 9 until one part thereof is entirely full of such garments or other articles, after which both parts of the line 2' are passed into the hook f as clearly indicated in Fig. 2, and the arm 7 is swung outwardly of the window, as shown in full lines in Fig.2, and said arm may be locked in either of the said positions by means of the vertically movable bar or rod h which'may be made to engage the top portion of the shaft f as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, in either position of said arm. Whenever it is desired to take the garments or other articles off the line the rod or bar it is raised and the arm 7 is swung inwardly of the window, as shown in full lines in Fig. 1 and dotted lines in Fig. 2, and is locked in this position, after which the garments or other articles may be taken off the line and the line pulled around the pulley 9 until this operation of the removal of the garments or other articles is completed.

Vith my improvement there is no necessity for an operator to lean out of the window and there is no danger of such operator falling from the window; and my said improvement is simple in construction and comparatively inexpensive, and may be easily applied to a window frame whenever necessary and changes in and modification of the construction described may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.

Having fully described my invention what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A line attachment for window frames, comprising brackets adapted to be secured to said frame, a shaft adapted to be rotatably mounted in a vertical position in said brackets, said shaft being provided with an arm having an upwardly directed extension, a pulley connected with said extension, and means for locking said shaft in different positions, comprising a nonrotatable vertically movable bar provided at its upper end with an angular extension adapted to engage said shaft.

2. A line attachment for window frames, comprising brackets adapted to be secured to one side of the frame, a rotatable shaft mounted vertically of said brackets and provided with an arm, a vertically movable nonrotatable bar mounted parallel with and adapted to lock said shaft in different positions and a pulley connected with said arm.
