Description

4lwnal gime @anni @man Letters Patcnt'N 94,753, dated September 14, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT 1N cHURNs.
www
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that LVVILLIAM C. KEMP, of Palmyra, in the State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ohurns; and I do hereby declare that the followingr is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanyingI drawings, and letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a plan vicw, and
Figure 2, `a side elevation, and
Figure' 3, a view ofthe dasher. Y
This invention consists partly in providing a churndasher with vibrator-y wings, which sway to and fro in the' cream; also, in the provision of a peculiar mechanism for imparting a vibratory motion to the dasher, the same consisting of a semicircnlar block, pivoted at one side, placed horizontally, and provided with a handie, and connected by cords with a windlass on the dasher-spindle.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I now proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Similar letters in the drawings refer to like parts.
In the drawings- A is a churn fixed on a platform A.
B B are posts stepped in the platform, one on each side of the churn.
On the upper ends of the posts B is sustained a frame, C, that may easily be lifted off.
About midway of the frame is a windlass, D, the journal cl of which extendsdown through the lower rail of the frame O, and enters a cavity in' the top of the dasher-spindlc (l, thus communicating the motion of the windlass to the flasher.
The flasher has wing, a', at each side, loosely pivoted upon a vertical wire; said wings being pierced with orifices a, and swinging hack and forth in the cre-ain, on their pivots, as the dasher vibrates, and thus impartingn an additional agitation to the cream.
A seulicircular lull-ck, E, is pivoted in a horizontal 'position between the upper and lower rails of the frame (l, and so that its curved side is next the windlass l).
l(lords c c', fastened tothe ends of the block, are wound tightly in opposite directions around the windlass D.
A'handlc, e, projects from one end of' the block, hy means of which the latter `may he vihrated upon its pivot, imparting a like vibratory motion to the windlass D and flasher.
The handle a may be connected, if desired, with a rocking-chair, so as to communicate the rocking-movement of the latter to the dasher.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- 4 l. The wings a', hungr upon pivots at the sides of' the dasher, so as to whirl to and io, substantially as and for the purposedescribed.'
.2. The block E, combined with the windlass D, in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
XVM. O. KEMP.
