EYE-SHADE.

Be it known that I, JAMES A. BLACK- STOCK, a citizenof Canada, and a resident of Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented aA new and Improved Eye-Shade, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. i., V'This invention relates to eye shades to prevent rays of light from striking t-he'eyes. y The object of the invention is to provide a shade which will etfectually prevent lightrays from reaching the eyes, andV it is especally adapted for use by people desiring to sleep in the daytime, in order to obviate the necessity of darkening the room.

The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts, to be more fully described hereinafter land .particularly set forth in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings formin a part of this specification, in which simi ar characters of reference indicate.corresponding parts in bothV vlews, and 1n wh1ch F igure-1 is aperspective view, showing the eye shade complete; and Fig.2 is a sectional view, on a slightly enlarged scale, taken on the line 2-2 in Fig. 1.

The shade may be constructed of Wire screen4 1 having a backing 2 of an opaque material secured thereto; this may be of leather or any other suitable material. The edges of the sheets 1 and 2 are finished by means of a soft binding 4 of cloth or felt.

The device is shaped substantially like a pair of spectacles, having the end portions 6 and 7 and an intermediate recess 8 ada ted to receive the nose of the wearer. Fl)

From the construction above set forth, ,it will be seen that the device readily lends itself for use in preventing light from reaching the eyes, and is especially adapted for use by people who desire to sleep in the da time and find it objectionable to darken t e -room in order to sleep with comfort. It is the purpose of my invention to overcome this objection.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as.. new and desire to secure by Letters Patent l 1. An eye shade of opaque material, hav- .ing portions adapted to extend across-the eyes of the wearer and formed with a recess intermediate the-length thereof, the shade having a binding of soft material at its edges, and a light-guard comprising a pad of soft material extending along each side of .said recess, to prevent the admission of light alongside the nose to the eyes of the wearer. e

An eye shade, comprising a sheet of reticulated material and a sheet of yopaque material, secured together at their edges and formed with a recess to receive. the nose of the wearer, and pads of soft material secured upon oppositev sides of said recess and extending on the face of the shade above -the edge of the recess, the said pads forming ticulated material and a sheet of opa ue ma-' v terial. each formed with a recess, sai sheets being secured together and finished on their 4 edges with a soft material, a light-guard of soft material extending along opposite sides of said recess, and arranged to prevent the admission of light alongside the nose to the eyes of the wearer, and means for holding the shade in position on the head of the wearer.
