To all whom it may concern:

Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Packing and Registering Metallic Seals; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in packing and registering metallic seals, and more particularly to packing and registering the kind of seals shown in my application for patent on the same, bearing even filing date herewith; and its object is to provide means for packing such seals, which means shall also consist of suitable leaves or sheets of paper interposed between the respective cards of seals, the seals being numbered consecutively and the sheets of paper having lines thereon correspondingly numbered and ruled for blanks on which may be entered certain items concerning the use of the respective seals whereby the sheets of paper constitute both a. suitable package for storing and shipping, and atthe same time form a suitable book in which to register the seals as they are used, and to provide the device with various new and useful features hereinafter more fully described and par ticularly pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:

Like numbers refer to like parts in all of the figures.

1 represents the body portions of the seals; 2 the locking pins; 3 the interposed sheets or leaves forming the book; 4 the retaining member of the seals in which the pins are inserted when the seals are locked. tegral portions 18 at one end thereof thus forming cards of seals corresponding to the leaves 3 and the leaves or sheets 3 forming the book are made somewhat wider than the respective series of seals, whereby the edges of the leaves may be secured to each other if so desired, thus binding them in book form.

The seals are preferably connected in groups of 10 and packed in quantities of one hundred, but obviously this may be modified if so desired. I also prefer to number the books consecutively and print the book number on each leaf, as at 5, which book number constitutes the figures above the units and tens of the respective numbers of'the seals in the book, the book shown being Book No. 12, which would be the thirteenth hundred seals of the series.

The units and tens of the numbers on the seals are obviously alike for each and every book; run from zero to ninety-nine, and are printed opposite the respective lines on the page, which lines thus each correspond in number to the superposed seal packed between the leaves, as shown in the columns 6 n Fig. 2. The leaves are also ruled verti cally for the date on which the respective seals are used as at 7 also another column is ruled in which is entered the name of the consignee to which the seal is sent; and also another column 9 is ruled for the address of the consignee. I also prefer to have a column .10 in which to enter the package number on which the seal is put, and a column 11 to make an entry in the event that the package should be returned. These entries when made opposite the respective number of the respective seals constitute a history of the seal which was in the package over the particular line. I am thus able to provide a convenient means of packing, storing and shipping these seals, which means also serves as a record book in which to keep a memorandum of various items of information concerning the use of each respective seal as the same are removed from the package.

The book proper described herein is not claimed in this application but is reserved for a separate application in accordance with the requirement of the office in respect to division.

What I claim is:

1. In a package, the combination of metallic seals, and sheets of-paper arranged in alternate layers, each sheet of paper having a series of ruled lines correspondingrto the.

series of seals, and each line on the paper and each seal opposite thereto. having the. same number impressed thereon.

2. In a package,'the combination of. me: tallic seals and sheets of paper arranged in alternate layers, the sheets of paper having ruled lines corresponding in number to the number of seals in a layer, each seal and each line on the paper having thereon the same number, the sheets of paper ruled vertically into columns for entry of data concerning the corresponding series of seals.

3. In combination, metallic seals arranged in layers, each layer being detachably connected to form a card of ten and a book comprising a series of leaves ruled for ten lines, the leaves of the book being arranged to alternate with the cards of seals the seals being numbered consecutively and the lines of the book numbered consecutively to correspond, the line numbers of the book running from zero upward and each leaf having the same number as a book number, and the seals having a series of numbers consisting of the book number followed by the line number as units and tens of the seal number.

4. In combination, seals detachably connected in series of tens to form cards of seals, and a book having a series of leaves ruled with corresponding lines of ten and also ruled in columns with headings to indicate the date on which the seal is used, the consignee of the package, and the address of the consignee the leaves of the book being arranged to alternate with the cards of seals.

5. In a package, the. combination of seals having oppositely projecting locking pins and retaining means, said seals being arranged in superposed layers off-set longitudinally, and a series of leaves interposed bet-ween the layers of seals and off-set in like manner, said leaves being ruled in lines corresponding to the number of seals arranged therebetween, and each line and each corresponding seal having a corresponding number.

6. In combination, metallic seals having oppositely projecting locking pins and retaining means, said seals being detachably connected to each other in groups of ten forming cards and a book comprising ten leaves off-set laterally to pass between the cards of seals, each leaf being ruled horizontally with ten lines and ruled vertically in columns, each leaf having the same book number at the top, and all the lines of the leaves being numbered consecutively from zero toone hundred, and all of the seals numbered with the book number followed by the line number arranged between the leaves with the seals and lines of the book, and corresponding numbers arranged opposite each other.
