BAG-TIE.
942,007. SPeCiCatiUn 0f Letters Patent Patented Nov. 30, 1909. Application led April 3, 1903... Serial No. 424,962.
To all whom it may concern: i samedirection as the prongs 8. The result Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. Monnnm, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Bangor, in the county of Penobscot andrState of Maine, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bag-Ties, ot' which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bag ties, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a simple device for holding the ends of a cord or string to be passed aroupd the mouth'of a bag, and torprovid'e means whereby one'endiot,` the stringmay be drawn to tighten thecoid around the bag and to hold the string at its adjusted position.
Another object of the invention isv to provideasimple sheet metal clasp provided Y j with two` grooves or barrels having inwardly ,projecting tongues, means being proauded to A the clasp.
securlyfhold the rope in one ot' s aidv :grooves lor barrelsyand to permit the otlrfrend to be drawn through the groove or barrel to tighten the cord or rope around the top ot a bag of grain, potatoes 'ortother articles.
These and other vobjects may be' attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying 'drawing,in which: l
Figure l is aperspective View of a bag tie i clasp made in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal horizontal section of the same. Fig. 3 is an endview of the same.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the bag tie inY which the ends of the cord or rope .are secured to Referring to the drawing for a more particular description of my invention, the numeral ldesignates one of the barrels of the clasp, and 2 is the otherbarrel thereof, said barrels being connected at their upper edges by an integral web or plate 3. The'flat 1n- I tegral web 3 forms a convenient finger hold for the bagV tie wh'ile adjusting the' rope through the same. The outer. edge of the barrel l Iseurved outwardly, as at t, while the outer edge of the barrel 2 is similarlyv curved, as 'at,5. Cut fromthe body of the bar-rel 1 are the prongs," 6, said ,prongs extending in the same direction longitudinally of the barrel l. Cut from the opposite wall of' the barrel lis la-pong 7 which extends in the opposite direction to the prongs. The barrel 2 `is provided with' prongs 8 which project in the opposite direction to the prongs 6 and vupon'the opposite wall of the 'barrel 2 is a prong 9 which projects in the tion indicated by the arrow'in Figsj and 4.1
and when adjusted will be held in position by means of the prongs S and 9. Vhcnever it. is required to untie'the bag, the en'd ll ot f the rope is drawn slightly and lifted out of the barrel 2.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that a bag tie made. in accordance with luy invention is o1" extremely simple construction. Vcan be manufactured at slight cost, provides tor the ready adjustment. ol the loop which passes around the'bag, and can be quickly adjusted and removed tronrihe. bag whew over access is required pto' the contents thereof. n `A Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
The herein described b'ag tie comprising a clasp 4consisting of two `barrels arranged'side by side in parallel relation, said barrels being open upon one side and .connected togetherby a flat integral'web to provide a finger hold `in using the clasp, the outer edges of said barrels being curved outwardly to permit the ready entrance of the cord or rope, one of said barrels having a plurality of prongs projecting from theinner side ot ward the opposite end ofsa-id barrel,a rope or cord permanentlysecuredfto said last mentioned barrel against movement in either v direction and the other barrel havinga plurality of prongs projecting lnwar -from the body portion thereof','said prongs a l extending toward one end. ofjsaid barrel: to permit the adjustment of the freeei'd of the cord 0i rope. v
In testimony whereo, 'aiiix my signature inpresence of two`.w'itnesses-` VILLIAM H. MORRILL. A lVitnesses: RALPH P.. PLAIsTED,
HERBERT D. WAL'roN.
