Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2, 1909.
Application'led September lLlSOB. Serial No. @52,592.
To all whom fit may concern:
Be 1t known that I, Hexer .losers SCHMITT, a citizen ot the United States, re,
siding at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Beverage-Siphons; and I do hereby declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description ot' the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to inake and use the-same.
This invention relates to siphons for earbonated beverages; and it consists in the novel construction and combination oi the parts as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is a vertical .section through -a beverage siphon constructed according tothis invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. f
A is a bottle for holding the beverage. This bottle is provided lwith a screw threaded collar t) around its neck.
C is a screw threaded cap which is screwed permanently onto the collar o, and c is a washer of packing-material interposed be tween the cap and the top of the bottle-neck B. This cap is provided with a central screw threaded socket I), and it has a valveseat d on its top surface.
E is a reservoir for compressed gas provided at its bottoni with a screw threaded stem e which engages with the socket D. The bottoni c of the reservoir bears on the valve-seat (Z when the stem c is screwed in, so that no gas can leak out ot the bottle at this point. The reservoir E is Yformed ot thin steel or other approved material.
l4` is a valve-casing in the middley of the reservoir over the stein e. This valve-casing is provided with two longitudinal passages f and g, and it has two valve-seats f and y.
II is a pipe connected to the lower end portion of the passage, j, and depending within the bottle nearly to` the bottoni thereof. The pipe Il is preferably made ot' glass and it is connected to thc' stein t' by a short metallic tube z., and a connection /t ot' india rubber or other suitable n'iaterial.
I is the discharge spout for the liquid connected to the casing F above the valve-seat f. A suitable valve z' is provided for closing the valve-seat f, and is screwed into the casing and is provided with a handle 1" for revolving it. The passage g extends longitudinally from thesteni c to apoint above the valve-seat g', and a short l-ateral passage j is arranged between the lower side of the valve-seat g and the gas-space of the reservoir. A suitable screw threaded valve ,le is provided for closing the valve-seat g, and It" is a handle for revolving the valve L. A
stutlingbox j is provided at the top of the I reservoir for preventingany upward leak of gas around the valve la. These valves are preferably of the needle-valve type, but any approved valves may be used in carrying out this invention, and they7 may be arranged and operated in any other approved manner. The arrangement of the valves side by side in a verti al position is a convenient one, but they may be arranged in various ways.
The beverage is placed in the bottle, and the reservoir is titled with carbonio-acid gas under pressure, or other suitable gas. The gas valve is screwed down tightly to retain the gas under pressure in the reservoir, and the stein is'thcn screwed into the cap until the bottom of the reservoir engages with the valve-seat. Gas is admitted to the bottle in suitable quantityv by opening the valve le, which may then be elosed it desired. beverage is discharged through the spout by The l opening the valve 2', andthe valves /e and and thesaid valve-casing having also a short liquid connected to the upper part of the said lateral passage between its gas passage and outlet passage. the gas reservoir, two separate Valves conf In testimony whereof I have afixed my trolling the outlet of liquid and the inlet of l signature inthe presence of tWo Witnesses.
5 gas through the said passages.I an outlet pipe HENRY JOSEPH SCHM ITT.
for liquid connected to the lower part of the lVitnesses: liquid outlet passage and depending within A. T. PUPKE, the said receptacle, and an outlet spout for l HERMAN BULLwlNnnr..
