To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWIN BARTnLs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elma, in the county of Howard and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Tool, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to tools for removing the contents of deep receptacles, particularly to tools for removing damp or sticky feed from barrels, and has for an object to provide a device of this character which will have a compartment adapted to remove the feed adhering to the inner walls of a barrel.

Another object is to provide a device of this character which will have an apertured partition between the main and auxiliary compartments through which the feed from either compartment may be discharged into the other compartment whereby to facilitate the discharge of the contents of both compartments at one operation.

Still another object is to provide a device of this character having a handle disposed in the most advantageous manner for readily manipulating the shovel in the barrel.

It is well known that feed of a pasty constituency will cake on the inner walls of a barrel, owing to the fact that the usual form of scoop will remove the feed from the center of the barrel, while the outer portion will remain undisturbed.

My present invention obviates the above diificulty by the provision of a compartment scoop secured to one end of a long handle, which by manipulation may be made to back the auxiliary compartment against the walls of the barrel after the main compartment has been filled so that the food is simultaneously removed from the center and inner walls of the barrel when the scoop is raised therefrom.

With the above and other objects in View which will appear as the nature of my invention is better understood, my invention embraces the structure illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which like characters of reference designate similar parts in the views shown.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a scoop constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross section taken on the line AB of Fig. 2.

Referring now to the drawings for a more detailed description of my invention, 1 designates the bottom or blade which is preferably of oblong contour and is provided on its opposite longitudinal edges with vertical side walls 2. The blade and side walls are preferably formed from a single sheet of metal and may be enameled if desired to give a finished appearance to the article and to prevent the oxidization or rusting of the metal.

The handle 3 extends in a plane at right angles to the plane of the blade and may be of any suitable length to permit of easy manipulation.

Formed at the lower end of the handle is a flared head 4, the longitudinal sides of which abut the inner faces of the vertical side walls 2 and are rigidly secured thereto by screws or similar connectors5. The head 4 extends sufiiciently above the side walls to divide the scoop into a main compartment 6 and an auxiliary compartment 7 In practice the scoop is lowered into the barrel and the main compartment filled when the scoop may be drawn u ward along the inner walls of the barrel an the auxiliary compartment thereby filled.

In order to facilitate the removal of the contents of the scoop the head 4 is provided with a plurality of transverse openings 8 communicating with the compartments on both sides of the head. During the transfer of the contents of the scoop to a trough or other receptacle designed to receive it, the feed contained in one compartment will escape through the openings in the head to the compartment discharging its contents so that the feed from both compartments will be discharged during one operation.

The bottom of the head bears against the shovel blade and may be secured thereto by screws 9 to give greater strength to the joint by the closeness of the fit.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is thought that the construction and operation of my invention will be easily understood without requiring a more extended explanation, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be made without sacrificing any of the advantages or departing from the spirit of the invention.

What is claimed is 1. A tool for removing damp or sticky stock feed from barrels comprising a blade having two flanges upturned from its longitudinal edges, and a handle having at one end a head rigidly secured to the opposed faces of said flanges perpendicular to the blade and bearing against said blade between the ends thereof.
