Description

@anni @Wina MARIET. SMITH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Letters .Patent No. 93,489, dated August 10, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN CORSET-PASTENING'S.
AThe Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same:
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARIE T. SMITH, of the city,
county. and State oi' New York, have invented-a new and improved Corset-Fastening; and I do hereby declare' that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l represents a front or face View of my improved corset-fastening.- l
Figure 2 is a transverse/section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a corset-fastening or clasp; and
It consists in so forming the male fastening-clip, by doubling the same back upon itself, that the knob shall project through the edge seam ofthe corset and occupy a position at a considerable distance from the edge of the husk, or at a point nearly over its centre, so that when the parts are fastened-together, the edges of the busks shall bc brought nearlyin contact -with cach other.
A A, in the drawing, represent the front busks of a corset, o f which one carries the knob B, and the other the eye G, as shown. i i
. The knobs, in this case, have hook-shaped Shanks,
that are riveted or otherwise secured to the under side of the busks, and that project through the seam at the edge of the corset, and extend, back over the busk to near the centre of the same. i
Such hook-shaped Shanks 4may also he secured to the outerpside of the husk with the same eect, to project through the rear-of the corset, and not require Iholes to bel eut through the fabric.
The eyes C are perforated plates, of' ordinary or l suitable construction.
By my construction of the clip, the edges of the busks are brought so nearly together that little o r no space is left between them to catch the clothing or pinch the wearer.`v i
`Moreover, as they protrude' only through the edge seams of the corset, which seam may be ripped at any point to accommodate an additional one or a 'new fastening in new positions upon the busks, or a busk with -a greater or less number of fastening-clips, when the change is necessitated by breakage, the face of the fabric remains undisturbed, as no holes, inl any case. are made through it.
-Having thus described my invention,
What Ir claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The hook-shaped o lip for .'corsets, constructed as described, and arranged t'o protrude through the seam fomied upon the edgeof `the corset and extend hack over the husk, in the manner herein set forth for thev purpose specified. v MARIE T. SMITH.
