' STRAINER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed December 3Qy 1908.
Patented Aug. 17, 1909. seriai No. 469,939.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT H. CARLISLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Covington, iii the county ot' Kenton and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Strainers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ot' the invention, such as will enable o tliers skilled in the art to which it appertains to inake and use the sinne.
My invention relates to strainers and particularly to that type which are adapted to be used upon the .dining table in lieu of the hand strainer which is constantly in the way and Jfrequently inisplziced.
rlllie object of this invention is to provide a device ot this character in which the strainer is adjustably nioiinted upon a suitable standard so as to be adjustable in a rotary direction as well as in a vertical one.
A further object otl the invention is to provide a device of this character which wiil be cheap to iiiainit'acture and etiicieiit and convenient in operation, and withal of a neat appearance.
W ith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel feat-tires of construction, c oinbination and arrangenient ot' parts, as will be niore fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claini.
ln the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the a detailed vertical section, detailed perspective view collar renioved troni the standard,'showing thc engaging legs ot the'sti'aiiier reinoved t beret'i'oni.
liefert-ing 'niore especially to the drawing, l represents a standard which isprefeiably toi-ined ot twisted wire, and has extending outwardly t'i'oin its base feet 2, which'v sup'-Y table or other At the top of 'and Fig. 3 is rest upon which it is placed the device two oppositely disposed loops 3 and `t are toriued so that the device' may be readily carried ti'oiii place toy place.
Surrounding the standard is a. suitable clamping collar 5 which is held in adjusted position on the standard by a thunib-bolt 6. This collar is adapted to be adjustable vertically on the standard 7 in adjusted position. On each side of the sleeve 7 lv provide tubes 8 which are ardevice; Fig. 2 is t ot the supporting to support the slt.
handle has ranged parallel therewith and are presumably forined of spirals otI wire liaving their ends soldered. or otherwise secured to the sleeve so as to be held thereon in propei' position to be engaged by the legs t) and 10 of the strainer.
The strainer is constructed preferably in the saine niannei' as. the ordinary tea or eoti'ee strainer, with a handle 11, strainer l2, and a supporting leg lil. The end of the projecting troni it in this instance, twisted wire nienibers l-l which-have their ends diverging and bent 'downwardly to t'orin the engaging legs 9 and l0.
Iii operation, the sleeve 7 is adjusted to the requisite height and the legs 9 and l() engaged with the tubes 8 so as to hold the strainer in horizontal position, as shown in Fig. l. isuitable drip pan inay be connected to the standard or to the legs so to prevent the drippingsfroin the strainer dropping upon the table.
Frein the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without re-l quiring a inorc extended exj'ilana'tion.
` Various Changes iii the torni, proportion and the ininor details of construction inay be resorted to without departing troni the principle or sacriti'cing any of the advanta ot' this invention as detined-in the appended claim.
'Having thus described and ascertained the nature of iny' invention what I claini as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is* v In combination, a supporting standard, sleeve reif'olubly inoiinted upon said standard,'tubcs arranged on either side ot' said sleeve, a` strainer, diverging legs carried by said strainer for engagement with said tubes whereby the strainer is supported in horizontal position, and revolubly inounted, and
'a clamping collar surrounding the standard and adapted to hold the sleeve in any vertical and adjusted position.
In testimony whereof Il have hereunto set iny hand` in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ROBERT H. CARLISLE. WTitnesses: i i' J onN H. SCHUTER, J. T. ToNNiEs.
