EUGENE DROUILLY, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
COMPOUND VE SSEL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 13, 1909.
Applicationfiled May 13, 1908. Serial No. 432,693.
vide an improved compound vessel, in w ich the severa independent receptacles will be securely maintained sealed, and in which the closures of said receptacle will be efficiently shielded against accidental displacement.
A further object of my invention is to arovide an improved compound vessel, in w ich the severa ceptacles will be ositioned on the exterior of the vessel; there y enabling each receptacle to be opened independently, and preventing the contents of any receptacle from coming in contact with the closures of other receptacles.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application and in which simiar reference symbols indicate corresponding parts in the several views-Figurc 1 1s a central vertical section'illustrating one embodiment of my invention; and Fig. 2 is a central vertical section illustrating a modified construction.
- Referring especially to- Fig. 1 of the draw ings, 1 indicates main receptacle, which is preferably cylindrical and formed of any suitable material, such as tinor sheet metal. For convenience in packing and storing, the receptacle is rovided witha flat bottom 2 and to 3. he flat to 3 is provided with a contra opening, from the periphery of which a threaded cylindrical flan e 4 extends within the receptacle. The cy indrical flange 4 braces the flat top 3 along the periphery of the central opening therein, and provides great strength and rigidity to said flat top. It will be notedthat the flange/42 is supported only at its upper end, from which it extends freel within the rece tacle; thereby per-- mittlng sufficient yielding of said flan e to accommodate any irregularities, or sight distortions, occurring in the threaded peclosures of the independent reriphery 5 of the cylindrical cap engaging said flange. p
The cylindrical cap has an open top, from which an annular flange 6 extends radially for engaging the flat top 3 of the receptacle to securely seal the latter. The engagement of the flange 6 with the top of the receptacle produces a frictional resistance tending to prevent accidental loosening of the cap. Further, the flange 6 lies snugly against the flat top 3 in a position which efficiently shields it from being accidentally struck or displaced. The annular flange 6 is provided with notches 7 to provide convenlent means for engaging said flange in screwing the cap to osition. An auxiliary receptacle 8 extends rom the flat base 9 of the cap, and. is rovided with suitable securing means, suc as threads 10 at its upper portion. An auxiliary cap is provided with a threaded portion 11 for engaging the threads 10, and with an annular flange 12 extending radially for engagement with the flat base 9 "to se curely seal the auxiliary receptacle. The flange 12 carries an axially extending flange 13, provided with notches 14 for convenient engagement in screwing the auxiliary cap to poslt on.
From the above description it will be understood that my invention rovides an in1- proved construction in whic the severalinde endent receptacles of a compound vessel w'l be securely maintained sealed, and in which the closures of said several receptacles will be located exterior of the vessel and efficiently shielded against accidental displace-- ment. I
Fig. 2 illustrates a modified construction, comprising a main receptacle 15 provided with a flat top 16 having a central opening surrounded by a heading 17. An auxiliary receptacle 18 is provided with an annular flange 19 against which is seated a suitable packing ring 20 for engagement with the eading 17. A cap closure 21 threadingly en ages the main receptacle at 22, and is provi ed with a central convex portion 23 for engaging the top edge of the auxiliary rece tacle 18 to securely close the latter. en the cap closure 21 is screwed tightly in osition, the convex portion 23 thereof will he forced against the top edge of the auxiliary rece tacle thereby securely closing said rece tac e and pressing the packing ring 20 fir y against the beading 17 to seal the main receptacle 15. This provides a very simple and durable form oi? compound vessel, capable of containing separately independent substances. 7
My invention is ada ted for use in all cases where it is desire to maintain'different substances distinctly separated. It is.
especially adapted for convenient use as an artist's box, where it is frequently desirable to carry the dry colors and varnish separately, in order that they may be mixed in the proper proportion when required for use.
I have illustrated and described a preferred and satisfactor construction, but, ohviously, changes cou d be made within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a compound vessel, the combination of a main receptacle provided with a flat top and a threaded cylindrical flange extending inwardly therefrom, a screw cap fitting within said threaded flange and provided with an annular base and an external flange for frictionally enga ing the top of said main receptacle, an auxiliary rece tacle dependent from the annular base of sai cap, and a screw closure for said auxiliary receptacle provided with an external flange for engaging the base of said cap and a notched rim extending upwardly from said flange of less length than said cap, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
