To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD l COOK, a citizen of the United States residing at Clear-= lake, in the county of Collin and State of Tex as, have invented a new and useful ShavingCup, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in i shaving mugs, and has for one 0t its objects the provision of a device of that kind having a compartment separated. from the soap compartment, which is adapted to be filled with water and so arranged that the water may be supplied to the soap compartment at will.

A further object is the provision of a drain leading from the soap compartment to the water compartment whereby the former may be drained of excess water after the lather has been formed.

il ith these and other objects in view, as will hereinafter more fully appear, the invention. consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, delineated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in that portion of this instrument wherein patentable nov elty is claimed for certain distinctive and peculiar features of the device, it being understood that, within the scope of what herematter is thus clain'ied, divers changes in the form, proportions, size, and minor details of the structure may be made, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In carrying out the invention I provide a shaving cup with a false bottom which. di-

' vides the interior of the cup into two compartments. The upper of these compart ments is designed to hold the soap, and the lower to be iilled with water. Communication is established between the compartments through the false bottom, the construction being such that when the cup is tilted the water from the lower compartment will flow into the upper and there mingle with the soap. reached the required consistency the cup is permitted to resume a horizontal position, whereby the excess water will drain from the soap compartment back into the water compartment.

The advantages gained by this construction are at once obvious, since it is well known that considerable difficulty is experienced in maintaining the lather at a uniform heat. lfleretol'ore it has been, in most cases, customary to put a supply of water into the shaving cup; alter the .lather had been formed and the excess water drained out of the cup the lather would hold its original temperature for a short time only; in order to again bring the lather to the required tem perature it being necessary to add a new supply of heated w ater from a detached source. As belore stated the present invention remedies this disadvantage by providing a water compartment which will maintain the heated lather at substantially its original temperature throughout the operation of shaving.

The cup 1 may be of any desired shape and formed of any suitable material. In the present instance it is shown to consist of a hollow cylindrical metallic body, the outer surface of which. is provided. with a suitable handle 2-. Medially disposed within the cup a false bottom. 3, the edge of *hich. is suitably secured to the inner surlace of the cup 1. Thus it can be seen that by the provision of the 'l'alse bottom the interior oi' the cup is divided into an upper and a lower compartment, the functions of which have already been described. Communication is established. between the con'martments by means of an opening 4 disposed in the edge of the false bottom 3. The function of this opening is two-fold; in the first place, the water which is poured. into the upper compartment will find its way through the opening 4. into the lower compartment whereby the latter will be iilled, and in the second ilace, after the water compartment has been filled, and the cup tilted in the proper direction the water from the water cormaartment will flow through. the opening 4 into the soap compartment.

Diametrically disposed to the opening 4 is what will subsequently be termed a vent opening 5, formed in the edge of thctalse bottom The vent opening is surrounded by one end of a vertically disposed pipe 6 the opposite end 01' which extends'to a point substantially coincident with the of the mug. The pipe 6 is substantially semi-circular in shape and has its sides secured to the inner surface of the mug, it being understood that the vent opening 5 will be identical in shape to the pipe 6 so that the inner face of the latter will be coincident with the wall of the opening. The function of the vent pipe will be readily understood and a further description of the same is not deemed necessary.

From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a device which is simple in construction and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture. It can be further seen that almost any form of metallic shaving mug may be readily fitted with the construction upper edge hereinbel'ore described,without changing the shape of said mug.
