ATTORNEYS.
IRVING T. MICHAEL'SON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Patented June 16, 1909,.
Application filed larch 23, 1-909. Serial No. 485,177.
' SAFETY-ENVELOP. V No. 925,367. Specification of Letters Patent.
To all whom it mg comm:
- .Be it known that I, IRvINo. T. MICHAEL- son, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York,;in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certam new and useful Improvements in Safety-Envelops, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled 1 I slits or-slots b 'm the end memb sealing, Fig.
1n the art to which it use the same. p
This invention relates. to envelops; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is so constructed, that when once filled ,and, sealed it cannot be opened without destroy' the same or producing evidence of the f l et that it has been opened or tampered with.
The invention" is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accom panying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts 0 my improvement are desi nated b suitable reference characters each of t e views, and in which Figure 1 is a blank form of which my improved envelop is made, Fig. 2 a back view of the envelop showing the same ready for 3 a back viewshowing the envelop sealed, and ;-Fig. 4' a section on the line 44 of Fig. 3.
In the practlce of my invention, I cut fromany suitable paper or similar material the blank shown in Fig. 1 and comprising a central body portion a provided with two similar foldin end members I), a folding side member 0 an the usual folding and sealin flap at opposite the side member 0. The en members I) are both cut away at their outer corners as shown at 6 and said members are also slitted longitudinally at the ends thereof as shown at b fand the folding side portion 0 is-provided centrally with a transverse slit or slot 0? which is adapted to register with the ers b, and the appertains to make andsaid arts of the blank are folded to form the 0 The folding side enve 0 The sealing flap d is gummed aroun its free edges and at the inner side. thereof as shown at d and one of the end members I) is also preferably gummed transversely of the inner side thereof at the end thereof as showii at 6 while the folding side flap 0 is gummed on its inner side as'shown at member 0 or the cornerportions thereof are cut off or beveled as shown at c, and the free edge of said folding side member is out out to form a triangular recess 0 and slitted inwardly from the apex of said recess members I), after which folding fla folding si e member a which are arran ed at an obtuse angle to each other as c early shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and the inner sides of the flap members 0 are gummed as shown at 0 is adapted to be slot 0 in the folding side member 0, and the slits or slots 6 in the end members I) when the said parts are folded to form the envelop as shown in Fig. 2, and-the outer end portion 6 of said strip or tongue is inner side, as shown at e, an the inner end portion 6 thereof is gummed on its outer s1 e.
In forming the envelop, b are folded over in the usual manner, the gummed surface 6 of one of said end members being sealed to the other, and the cut away corner parts I) of 'said end members gummed on its asshown at c"; this forms two I members 0 at the free edge of the I also provide a strip or tongue e which passed through the slit or the end members.
form a semi-circular recess f insaid parts when they are folded and sealed together as clearly shown in Fi. 2 Thefoldin side member 0 is then foFded over and sea ed to the end members I) with the exception of the flaps c. The strip 'or tongue e is then assed inwardly through the registering -s its or. slots 0 and b as clearly shown in Fi 4, and the inner end 6' thereof is sealed to the parts basclearly shown in said figure. The envelo is now ready for use, and when the desired flap d is folded over and sealed to the end members 0 are folded over the flap d and sealed thereto all as clearly shown in Fig. 3.
When an envelo constructed in this manner has been sealed in the manner described,
it will be impossible to open it without destroying the ack parts thereofinclu'ding the tongue or strip e and the flap members 0 and the sealing flap d or a part thereof.
Having I claim as new and desire ters Patent, is
'An envelop composed of a blank compris -l portion provided with similar 1n a bodfy foFding en members, and at one s1de wlth a folding side fully described my invention, what, to secure by-Let package or paper is placed therein the .90
the folding flap I with a folding sealing flap, the corners of the folding side member at its free edge being cut off diagonally and the central part of'the free edge of said folding side member being prov1 ed with a triangularrecess at the apex of,
which said folding side member is provided 1 0 member and at theopposite side I plemental seal' flaps w ch are arr-angled at te an obtuse ange to each other an are whic slits in the end members being adapted to 925,887 with a slit which ranges transversely ofthe when the parts of the-blank are body portion and by means of which the said f0 ded together, and a separate sealing tongue folding side member is rovided with supor strip adaptedto pass through said regisslits and the outer end v is gummed on its inner si e'and the gummed on their inner side, said folding side inner end portion on its outer side. member being also provided inwardly 0 said In testimony slit with a transverse slit at right angles my thereto, the end ortions of theffolding end presence of the subscribing witnesses this members being a o rovided with longitu- 20th day of March 1909.- I dinal slits, and said f0 ding sidememberbeing IRVING .T.
