LILLIAN O. MATTELL, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
SEWING-MACHINE APRON.
Application filed November 6, 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LILLIAN C. IVIATTELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sewing-Machine Aprons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to apparel and has reference especially to an apron to be worn when operating a sewing machine.
An object of this invention is to provide an apron which may be especially applied to a sewing machine table or the like for the purpose of supporting the work during the operation of the machine.
A further object is the provision of an apron which can be detachably secured to the table by the employment of a simple arrangement of buttons and slots.
Other objects and advantages will be ap parent from the following description and it will be understood that changes in the specific structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claims with out departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming a portion of this specification, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the apron as applied to a table, Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the apron in a flattened position, Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the table showing the securing means partly in section, and the apron detached therefrom, Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of the table.
Referring to the drawings, 10 designates a table top which is provided upon its under surface with two L-shaped metallic guides 11 and 12. The guides 11 and 12 are rectangular in cross section and are provided with T- shaped slots 15 and 16 longitudinally formed therein extending practically the entire length of the same. The guid s 11 and 12 are so positioned as to disposethe arms 13 and 14 thereof toward each other at the rear extremities of the guides 11 and 12. The forward ends of the guides 11 and 12 are made solid to close the ends of the slots 15 and 16 which are preferably curved inwardly toward one another as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings.
The guides 11 and 12 are adapted to carry disks 17 which are mounted upon stems 18 disposed through an apron 19 and inserted therethrough against the washers 20. The
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 18, 1909.
Serial No. 461,348.
In use, the band 21 is secured about the waist of the wearer by engagmg the hook 22 in one of the eyelets 23. The disks 17 are now inserted in the slots 15 and 16 from the inner ends of the arms 13 and 14 and are carried to the forward curved ends of the slots 15 and 16 where they are held from displacement by the tension of the lower edge of the apron 19.
IVhat is claimed is 1. A device of the class described comprisin an apron, a band on said apron for securing the same to the waist, disks disposed at the lower end of said apron and guides disposed upon the under face of a table for detachable engagement with said disks. 2
2. In a device of the class described the combination with a sewing machine, of guides carried by the sewing machine, an apron, disks on said apron for engagement with said guides and a band on said apron for securing the same to the waist.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination with a table, of guides having angular T-shaped slots formed therein, an apron, disks secured in the lower opposite corners of said apron for detachable engagement in said slots, a band carried by said apron at the upper end thereof having a plurality of eyelets formed therethrough in one extremity and a hook for adjustable engagement in said eyelets.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
