To all 4whom it may concern Beit known 'that 1, D. l). Om'r'rnsnnx, of Baldwiusrille, in the county of Onondaga, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improve- `ment in lVlilking-'Stlmls; aml I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable those skilled in the art to inake and use the same, reference being had to the accoinpauying,r drawings, forming part of this specilication, in which- Y Figure 1 is a side View, with the pail-rest or platform let downin position for use, aml

Figure 2 is a plan view, with the pail-rest in a folded position.

This invention relates to an improved rest or attachment for milking-stools, -whereby th'e milk-pail is held from contact with the ground,yaml to an improved attachment for securingthe switch or tail of the cow, so that the milkman shall not be annoyed thereby'.

.In the accompanying drawings- A is the seat or milking-stool;

B is the pail-rest or platform; and

C is thel switch-holder. The restYB is hinged to aslottcd standard, E, by hinge, e; and said standard EI is secured to the side of the stool A byla boltorl pin, j, which passes through the slot of the standard.

'To unfold the -pail'rest, the standard E, iig. 2, is turned in a vertical posit-ion, and depressed on the bolt j', and the rest is then thrown out on turned down into position, as shown by tig. 1.

The red line B, in tig. 2, alsoY indicates the position of the rest B, when thrown out for use.

, \Vhen the stool is not in use, the rest B is folded up, so that the stool is in snug forni, as seen in iig. 1.

The switch-holder,consists iu a standard, C, which is provided with a short clamping-lever, D, having a curved portion, ll,- i'or a handle.

rlhis lever is pivoted in a Slot, c, tig. 2, in the stand- 'i 'l ard, and the. slot is extended downward, so that the whole of'. the lever D, to its handle, enters the slot, when downward pressure is applied to said handle.

To secure the tail or switch, the hairsat-its end, or a few ot' them, are carried under the lever D, and tht.L

vlever-being pressed down, said hairs are pressed into the slot c, with the lever, and in this manner are held with a sufficient grasp to prevent the annoyance to the I nilker of being switched thereby in the/eorts of the cow to keep oi liies. t

By this means, vthe pail is, kept from contact with lmrn-yard dirt, and the stool is in sung form only when in use, andthe switch-holder is constructed in the most simple manner.

Having thus described my invention,

,What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-` 1. ln combination with 'the stool A, the pail-rest B b, hinged to the slotted standard E, iu such manner l as to be adjustable and capable of folding up, when said parts are constructed and arranged substantially as herein shown and described.

2. The clamping-lever D d, in connection with the standard C and milking-stool A, all constructed and operated as and for the purpose herein set forth.
