LEAF OH. SHEET FOR 'LQOSE-LEAF BINDERS;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES C. MALTBY, a citizen of the United States of'America, and a resident.0i Cincinnati in the county of Hamilton and State of (lhio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Leaves or Sheets for Lo0soLeaf Binders, of which the follbwing is a specification.
This invention relates to certain improve ments in leaves or sheets for use. in connection with doorseflepf binders and the like, and more particularly, in connection with that class of binderswherein the o posite ends of the binder-back are provide with devices for engagement with opposite ends of the binding edges of the leaves or sheets for holdin the forward andlateral edges of the [eaves or sheets in alinement when contained within the bind-til and of which the binder shown and, desribed in my patent pending application, Serial No. 117,939, filed August 1,1902,(of which the present ap lication is asubdivision) is a t vlpe and the o jectof the invention is to prev: e a leaf or sheet of this general character of a simple and inexpensive nature and of a construction adapting it for accurate en agement with said, alining devices of the inder-back without in any way interfering with the free and convenient rem valor insertion of th leaf or sheet within .t e binder and in engagement with the leaf or sheet retaining means thereof.
'l-he invention consists ,in certain novel features of this construction of the iin )lI-fYGtl leaf or sheet whereby thesanie is ma eirjgiadll) inseriibie in and removable from the lander in and out of ,enghgenientwith the Mining devices thereof andwliereby certain iiu ortant ndvanta'es are attained, all as vvi he hereinafter ully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the GlttlH iS.
in the accompanying drawings which serve in illustrate Iii. utvent on Figure l is a sectional view ta ertgtransversely through the aliuiug devices and leaf. or sheet-retainin means 0 )llflutlml and showing a leaf orsheet 0111- odying my improvements engaged with the same, and Fig. 2 is a View showin my improved leaf or sheet detached. limo the )inder.
Specification of Letters Patent.
a binder such as is deseri hedan claimed in my above-mentioned patent are. .9;
conveniently eifected u Patented April 27, 1 909.
Original application flied August 1, 1902, Serial 117,989 Divided and this application flied June 9, 180B. Serial No. 320,980.
In these views 1 indicates the improved leaf or sheet edges and having its straight binding ed ge portion 2 provided with circular apertures 3, 3 spaced apart from each other at suitable intervals for the passage of, the leaf or sheet retainin -means 4,4 shown in Fig. in roun ed tubular iorm, although they may be'otherwise formed, in which case the o errings 3, 3 will'be shaped to lit closelya out the same. i 5, 5 represent slitted I rearwardly from apertures 3, to the said straight binding edge of the leaf or sheet for adopting the improved leaf or sheet to be slip ed edgewisein and out of engagement wit 3 the leaf or sheet retaining means 4, 4 in a well-known way.
At the extreme opposite ends or corners of the binding-edge portion 2 of the improved leaf or sheet are produced open, right-angles;
cutout portions or shoulders 6, 6, adapt to fit snu ly around the angles formed by the inner an forward sides of the, aljningf le' vices 7, 7, at opposite ends of the l'fliid! back, said devices being in the form ofh ollow having straight lateral and fibnt 5t 1 as made 60 openings extended 6t reotangular housings or casings tmd'flitiiiig so desi nod for engagement in thdan ar note es or shoulders 6, o of the leaves or sheets in such a manner as to hold the-lab eral and forward ed es thereof in accurate alinement position in the binder, whereby unevenness of said edges of the leaves or sheets pre -vented and whereb said leaves oriaheets when the eavesor sheets are 8 5 are also revented rorn twisting or sliding. ever see other when in position within the to interfering with the ready L or sheet permits ao- 96 insertion or removal of the respective leaves" Lilli removal or insertion being on rearward edge wise movement o the esired leaf or sheet sheets, such from or toward the binder-back whereby the arallel inner edges oi the shoulders 6, 6 are 106 slid out of or into engagi-unent with the inner faces of the rectum lar casin s or housin s 7, 7 which form t e alining evices of t e bin er-back.
The improved leaf or sheet constructed according to my invention is of an extremely aim is and inexpensive nature and is especiali; well adapted for use by reason of the uniform alinement of the edges of the sheets attained when the leaves or sheets are in lace withinthe binder, and it will be obvious mm the above description that the imgrovedleaf or sheet is ca able of some modi- 'cation without .materia departure from the principles and spirit of the invention-and for this reason I do not desire to be understood as limiting myself-to the precise form and arrangement of the improved leaf or sheet herein set forth in carrying out my invention aving thus described mi; invention what I claim and desire to secure y Letters-l atent 1. A rectangular sheet or leaf for loose- 'ah'ning leaf binders and the like, also having straight sides or edges and with its inner straight binding edge rovided with a series of miforations for t e assage of sheet or leai retaining means of a binder and having the extreme opposite ends or corners of its said binding ed e shouldered or cut away at rightan less and alined with said perforations, an said cut-out or open right-angled corners being adapted to freely engage correspondingly right-an led alining devices at the opposite ends 0 a binder-back.
2. A sheet for loose leaf binders having its comers angularly cut away to cooperate with devices of the binder, there being a plurality of openings 3, formed in said sheet and a plurality of slits 5, the latter leading from said openings to the adjacent edge oi the sheet.
