7 Be it known that I, Ano'L'Pnos G. MEIER, a citizen of the United States, residin at the city of St. Louis, in the 'State'of ouri, have invented a certain new anduseful Cal- .culator, of which the following is such a full, clear, and exact description as will enable any one skilled in the art to which it apper-- tains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accom anying drawings, forming art of this spec' cation- The 0 ject of my lnventi'on is to provide an adding or other calculating machine with a superimposed or supplementary keyboard, ementary accumulator,

In order to return the accumulator wheels to their initial position I secureTto the shaft 15 at the left hand side of each of said wheels an arm 58 and I provide each of the said wheels with a pin 59 adapted to be engaged by the arm 58. The arms 58 are operated by means of a milled head 60 upon the end of the shaft 15.

The operation of my device is as follows:

After the number is set 1:8, as above described, the handle 13 of the operated so as to bring the finger 39 into engagement with the end 51 of the lever 49 of the right hand accumulator wheel, and, conse uently, the right hand accumulator wheel Wi 1 show the number of times which the han- -dle has been operated with the keyboard in the first position. In this instance after the handle is operated four times and the right hand accumulator wheel shows four through its opening, as illustrated in Fig. 4 of the drawings; the handle 28 isgrasped and the detent 29.released so that the su plementary keyboard can be swung upward on the rock shaft 16 and moved one space to the left, when it is swung down and again secured in position by' means of the detent;29. The
andle'is now operated seven times and the keyboard again moved one space to the left and the handle operated three times, the numbers 3 and 7 appearing through the op vnings 46 to indicate to the o erator when t e handle has been operate 'the proper number of times. By now taking the total on the-adding machine the required result is obtained. In order to return the accumulator wheels to zero, the milled head 60 is grasped and the shaft 15 rotated until the arms 58 enga e the pins 59 on all the wheels 45 and the w eels can then be brought to zero.

' Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. In a calculator, the combination with an addin machine or the like provided with a main eyboard and accumulator, of an n o crating handle for said-machine, a supplbmentary keybgard and a supplementary accumulator'for said. keybqard, said supplementary accumulator being actuated from the o crating handle of said adding machine;
2. v a calculator, the combination with an ad machine or the like provided with a main eyboard and accumulator, of an operating handle for said machine, a laterally movable supplementa keyboard, and a supplementary accum ator for said keyboard',-said su plementary accumulator beactuated om the operating. handle of sa d adding machine.
3. In a calculator, thecombination with an adding machine or the like provided with a main keyboard and accumulator, of an operating handle for said machine, a laterally movable su plementary keyboard, a lurality of accumu ating devices adapte to be brought successlvely into operation by the movement of said keyboard, and means for actuating said accumulating devices from the o crating handle of said adding machine.
