COMBINED GLOD-CRUSHER AND HARROW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 2, 1909.
Application filed August 3, 1908. Serial No. 446,747.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, l/VALTER IV. REIoH- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mahrud, in the county of Holmes, State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Clod- Crusher and Harrow; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to a combined clod crusher and harrow.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a combined clod crusher and harrow which includes a frame having ournaled thereon a plurality of tooth crusher cylinders or rollers and hingedly connected to said frame in rear of the crusher cylinders or rollers is a harrow support having a plurality of detachable harrow teeth and manu ally operable means for raising and lowering the harrow support.
lVith this and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings which disclose the preferred embodiment of the invention, however, it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications will be made such as come properly within the scope of the claims hereunto appended without de parting from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings ,'-Figure 1 is a top plan view of the invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 is a rear end view. Fig. 4 is a detail view of one harrow tooth and the means for connecting it to its support.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
In the drawings, the numeral 5 designates the frame of the clod crusher which is of rectangular shape including spaced parallel front and rear beams 6 and 7 respectively, and end connecting beams 8 secured to the said front and rear beams by bolt fasteners 9 to form the unitary frame. Centrally of the frame 5 is a draft beam 10 the rearmost end thereof being connected by a fastener 11 to the underside of the rear beam 7 which draft beam overlies the front beam 6 and is held secured thereto by a fastener 12 and mounted thereon is a yieldable seat standard 13 supporting a seat 14 of the usual form.
Secured to the underface of the end beams 8 and said draft beam 10 are bearings 15 in which is mounted a journal or shaft 16 upon which are rotatably mounted crusher cylinders or rollers 17 held separated from each other by spacer washers or collars 18 disposed between the rollers and surrounding the said shaft or journal. Projecting from the outer face of each crusher roller or cylinder 17 and secured therein are a plurality of crusher teeth 19 arranged in staggered relation to each other which latter have enlarged flattened extremities 20 which are disposed in alinement with the axis of said rollers or cylinders.
Secured to the rear beam 7 of the frame 5 and projecting rearwardly therefrom are extensions 21 having spaced parallel ears 22 between which are pivotally connected by pins 23 vertically swinging arms 24 having enlarged ends 25 being cut away to form horizontally disposed lugs 26 between which is connected a support such as a bar or beam 27 by connecting pins or bolts 28 which bar or support is provided with an elongated slot 29 through which pass the shanks 30 each having a loop terminal 31 for receiving the har row teeth 32 which lie in recesses 33 formed in the inner face of the bar or beam 27 whereby the said harrow teeth are vertically supported and prevented against lateral displacement upon the bar or beam 27 when adjustably connected thereto. In threaded engagement with the shanks 30 are nuts 34 having their bearing against plates 35 provided with offsets 36 engaging said slot 29 which plates are adapted to slide longitudinally in said slot so as to permit the adjustment of the harrow teeth 32 longitudinally of the support.
It is obvious that when the nuts 34 are worked outwardly on the shanks to loosen the locked engagement of the harrow teeth on their support, the said harrow teeth 32 are permitted to be adjusted vertically with respect to said support. Furthermore, it is apparent that when the nuts 34 are tightened or worked inwardly on the shanks 30 the said harrow teeth 32 will be locked to the beam or bar 27 in their adjusted position.
On the rear beam 7 is secured a segment 37 having teeth 38 and pivotally connected to said segment 37 is a handle operable lever 39 having thereon the usual locking member or pin 40 to engage the teeth 38 which is normally held in engagement with said teeth by a spring 41 surrounding the pin 40 connected to a pivotal handle piece 43 carried by the upper end of the manually operable lever. To the said lever 39 is pivotally connected a link 44 having pivotal connection as at 45 between upwardly extending spaced lugs 46 on the beam or bar 27 forming the support for the harrow teeth.
To regulate the position of the harrow teeth 32 with respect to the ground or for disengaging the same therefrom the operator releases the locking pin from engagement with the teeth of the segment and moves the lever 39 in a direction to elevate the bar or beam 27 through the medium of the link con nection therewith.
What is claimed is- 1. In an implement of the class described, the combination with a main frame having crusher rollers journaled therein, of a pair of ears secured to the rear of the main frame, vertically swinging arms pivoted to said ears and having enlar ed ends cut away to form spaced horizontal y disposed lugs, a support mounted between the lugs, bolt fasteners passing through said lugs and support, said support being provided with an elongated slot intersected by vertical recesses in the inmacro ner face of the support, harrow teeth mounted in the recesses, bearing plates mounted against the outer face of the support, and hook fasteners passing through the elongated slot and engaging the harrow teeth and bearing plates.
2. In an implement of the class described, the combination with a main frame having crusher rollers journaled therein, of a pair of cars secured to the rear of the main frame,
vertically swinging arms pivoted to said ears I and having enlarged ends cut away to form spaced horizontally disposed lugs, a support mounted between the lugs, bolt fasteners passing through said lugs and support, said support being provided with an elongated slot intersected by vertical recesses in the inner face of the support, harrow teeth mounted in the recesses, bearing plates mounted against the outer face of the support, hooked fasteners passing through the elongatedslot and engaging the harrow teeth and bearing plates, and manually operable means for raising and lowering the su )ort.
In testimony whereof, I ai my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
WVALTER WV. REICHMAN.
