' V "MAHLON .1. KELLoe 'or GARY, INDIANA.
REVOLVER-LOADEB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 23, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAHLON J. KELLOGG, a citizen of the UnitedjStates, residing .at Gary, in the county, of :Lake and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements'in Revolver-Loaders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to fire arms and more particularly to revolver loaders, and has for an object to provide a device of this j character which will be simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and which willv effectively serve as a means for'holding a plurality of cartridges together whereby they may be quickly inserted within the cartridge chamber of a revolver. I
A further object of this invention is to provide a'device of this character whereby a plurality ofcartridges may be secured together ready for insertion within the revolver, and which may be quickly released when it is desired to feed the cartridge chamber. 1
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description and it will be understood that changes in the specific structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claims without departing. from the spirit of the invention.'. r
In the drawings forming a portion of this specification, and in'which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 1s a top plan view of the present invention, showing the same in its closed position, Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the device in its open position Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view, Fig. 4 is" a side View. r j
Referrin now more particularly to the drawings, t ere is shown acartridge holder for revolvers or simllar fire arms comprising a relatively narrow strip of spring material 10 having a vertically disposed hooked portion 11 at one end, as shown for a purpose to be hereinafter described. 7 1
' The strip 10 is provided with a plurality of clasps 12 arranged to receive and secure in place a strip of suitable material 13, preferably leather, but itwill of course be understood that any suitable material may be employed. ,The material 13 is corrugated, as shown, and thus provides a plurality of cartridge receiving pockets 14, eachhaving a slightly reduced mouth l5. The walls of' each pocket are secured to the walls of each of the adjacent pockets by means of staples 16for similar fastening devices.
- -Ahandle 17 is provided for the holder,
and comprises a substantiallyjH shaped memher having upon its under side spaced flanges 18 arranged to receive one end of the strip 10 which. may be secured to the handle by screws or the like 19. The'handle is provided with a hollow portion'20, and slidably arranged in the hollow portion, there is shown a plunger or trigger 21 arranged to 'bear normally at its outer endagainst the hooked end 11 of the strip 10 when the holder is in its closed position, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The handle, is also rovided with a toothed portion 22 arranged for locking engagement with said hooked end 11 of the strip. A member'23 is'carried by the handle, and serves to normally close the hollow portion thereof for preventing accidental manipulation of the trigger 21 when the device is carried in the pocket.
" end 11 from the toothed end 22 of the handle, whereupon, by means of the elasticity of the strip, it will be seen that the ends thereof will spring apart thus permitting the cartridge to be released. 7 V
- A device as herein set forth and described is extremely simple, may be manufactured at a relatively low figure and will be found most valuable for the purpose of uickly reloading the cartridge containingc amber of Y .a revolver.
'A thumb engaging lip 16 is carried by the band adjacent to one of its ends whereby the band may be conveniently closed, as will be readily understood.
What is claimed is:
, 1. A device of the class described comprisin a strip of spring material, means for holding the ends of said material adjacent each other at times, means for separating the ends (if said strip, and cartridge retaining means carried by said strip.
2. A device of the class described comprismg a metallic member in ring form, and having separable ends, a handle carried by said member at one of 1ts ends, means carrled by said handle for engagement wlth the other end of sald member, and cartridge retainlng means carried by -said member.
3. A device of the class described com I'lS- nrg a metallic member, a handle carrie by said member at one of it's jends, a'hook carried by one end of sald member, means carried by 'said handle for engagement Wlllh' and hook, a flexible member carried by said 15 metallic member, and having a plurality of cartridge receiving ockets, and a slidin plunger carried by sald handle and arrange for operation to disengage said hook Whereby cartridges may be delivered to the (:ar- 20 fridge chan'iber of a pistol.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature, in presence of two Witnesses.
