Description
OASSIUS M. SIMPSON, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
GARTER-FAS'IENER.
' Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 9, 1909.
Application filed September 4, 1906. Serial No. 333,078.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, OAssIUs M. SIMPSON, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Cincinnati, county of Hamilton,
State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garter-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to garters of that class which have an elastic web which encircles the limb and from which web depends a fastener consisting of a button and a loop to engage the button and between which and the button the stocking is held.
It is the object of my invention to provide a garter fastener Which is secured upon the Webbing without sewing and is composed of two members which, while they may be engaged and disengaged from each other readily, yet hold together firmly so as to prevent accidental opening of the clasp. This object is attained by the means described in the specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of a garter fastener embodyin my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail plan view of the plate of the clasp which is secured upon the webbing adjacent to the loop. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the same upon line 0c-r of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detail plan view of the other members of the clasp. Fig. 5 is a sectional view of the same upon line y-y of Fig. 4. Fig. 6 is a detail view of the blank from which one of the plates of the garment fastener is made. Fig. 7 is a sectional view of the parts shown in Figs. 3 and 5, when said parts are engaged together, but upon a somewhat enlarged scale.
Referring to the parts: Plate, F, of the fastener is made from the blank shown in Fig. 6. It has radial slots, f, f f and f through which the web, E, is to be drawn. Projecting from one side of the plate is an arm which has two fingers, f f 5 between which is a central socket, f. The fingers, f f have indentations, f f and in alinement with the socket, f late, F, has an upwardly projecting kno f Arms, f f are bent over into parallelism with the plate, F, so that the socket, f stands directly above the knob, f. The other member, G, of the fastener consists of a tongue having a central, short, hollow stud, g, to which is secured a head, 9, which stands at a distance from the tongue, G, such as to admit of the passage of the fingers, f f of the slate, F. The central perforation, 9 in the nead, g, and stud, g, is of a size such as to pass over the knob, f.
To secure the members of the fastener together, the head, g, is made to bear against the plate, F, with the stud, g, in alinement with the socket, f. Then the tongue is drawn outward causing the fingers f to be raised slightly upward to pass the head, 9, inward, so that the knob, f, is forced into the perforation, g by the spring in the arms, f f. In this position, the dents, f f bear against the periphery of the circular head, g, and while permitting a rotation of the same upon the knob, f prevents any accidental disengagement of the two members of the fastener.
It is seen that the socket upon the plate, F, forreceiving the head of the fastener is very readily manufactured and that the arms, f f form at once a secure means of holding the members of the fastener together, and at the same time one which allows of a ready engagement and disengagement of the two members, one with the other.
W hat I claim is:
A arter fastener consisting of a plate having s ots therein for passing a web, fingers projecting from one edge of the plate bent upward and backward over the plate leaving a socket between them, a knob struck up from the plate and projecting into alinement with the socket, and a tongue adapted to be secured to the end of a web having a central short stud terminating in a flat head adapted to pass under the fingers of the plate and having a recess for passing over the knob.
CASSIUS M. SIMPSON.
