Letters Patent No. 91,07 8,- dated June 8, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT ID HORSE HAY-FORKS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH BRADLEY, of Racine, in the county of Racine, and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented .new and useful Improvements in Hay-Forks; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and'to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The object of my invention is to provide a hay-fork, the construction of which consists in the arrangement of certain devices, hereinafter fully set forth and de-v scribed.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my fork, with the arms extended. I V
Figure 2 is a similar view, with them closed.
Letter A represents the principal prong of my. fork,
which consists of a long flat bar, thetop of which is bent over, so as to form a loop, and is provided with a pulley, while the bottom is sharpened to a point, so that it will the more readily penetrate the hay.
It has also a long vertical slot cut in it, near the top, in which the pivot, which bends the lever and the short arm together, plays up and down.
Pivoted on to each side of this prong A, below the middle, is a fork, B, the ends of which are formed like a harpoon.
1 Attached to the top of one of these forks is a short arm, 0, while to the other there is a 'lever, D, by means of which the prongs are opened and closed.
The end of this arm 0 is pivoted to the middle of the lever D, near its centre, the bolt which joins them and when desired to cast oil the load, the cord E is pulled, whereby the lever D israised, and the forks closed, when the load falls by its own weight.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim, and desire to secureby Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement of the slotted and extended'spearbar A, hooked bars B B, arm 0, extended lever D, and cord E, passing over the pulley, all constructed and operating as shown and specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 25th day of March, 1869. Witnesses: JOSEPH BRADLEY.
W. S. TEFFT, Fannnmo ULLMANN.
