Be it known that I, WILHELM KoLLn, a
subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of Neue Veinsteige, Stuttgart, in the Kingdom of Wiirtemberg, Germany,
have invented certain. new and useful Tin-- provements in Apparatus for Generating dielectric and the air is ozonized by passing first through the "interior of the dielectric tube and-then ovei' the exterior.
According to the present invention the air instead of passing through the tube and then coming in contact with the exterior walls thereof is passed through a plurality of concentrically arranged tubes with coils su ported at a short distance from the wa s thereof so that the outer coil on one tube forms the inner conductor for the dielectric tube of next largest diameter surrounding the first mentioned tube.
The nature of the present invention and the manner in which it is carried into effect will be more readily understood from the following description of the apparatus re resented in the accompanying drawing, wl iich -'shoWs a cross section through an element of an ozonizing apparatus.
According to the form of this invention illustrated a central dielectric tube a is surrounded by two other dielectric tubes 12 and 0, these dielectric tubes being composed of a material able to withstand a very high potential difference oneither side thereof. Through the central tube a there passes a rod d which however does not touch the walls thereof.
The tube a, the rod (2 and the tube 6 are all supported in an insulating cap i which may be screwed or otherwise fixed to apartition m in the box p. Round the exterior of the tube a there is wound a coil f which is kept by any suitable means at a short distance from the outer wall of the.tube. terior of the tubes b and a similar coils g and h are wound. The lower end of the tubes at, b and c fit into a double cover or cap Z which is fixed to both artitions n and 0 of the casing 12. The coils lt and f are connected to a terminal g. In this way there is formed a series of concentric coils, alternate coils of which are connected to one terminal while the other set of alternate coils are connected to the" other terminal.
The operation' of this device is as follows :Air enters the central chamber of the casing p by means of a pipe 8 as shown by the arrow. This air then passes through openings'in a ca k at the end of the outer pipe 0 and throu E the annular space left between the outer 'electric tube 0 and the first inner dielectric tube 1). As the coil h is connected to the terminal 1" while the-coil g is connected to the terminal (1 electric dischargespass between the coil h on the wall of the dielectric and also between the coil 9 and the inner wall of the dielectric tube 0. The air passing from the pi e s is therefore ozonized to some extent by t e discharges external to the dielectric tubes and then is further ozonized by the internal discharges taking place between the coil g and the inner surface of the tube 0. As however the coil f is connected to the terminal (Land the coil 9 is connected to the terminal qa similar action to that above described takes place between the coil 9 and the external wall of the-tube b and between the coil f and the internal wall of the dielectric tube b. A similar action also takes place with regard to the walls of the inner dielectric tube a. that each coil conductor acts as the inner conductor for the tube outside it and as an outer conductor for the tube which it surrounds. There is therefore obtained by an arrangement of concentric dielectric tubes and coils in the manner described a saving in the current while the ozomzing effect is increased. 1
It will be understood that the air after passing 'throu h the annular space between the tube (5 an the tube 1) passes up through the annular space between the tube b and the tube a and then passes downward through the central tube a as shown by the arrows.
