Leners Patent No. 90,608, ma Ma/y 25, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN TQILET PIN -CASES The Schedule referred to .in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom 'it mtr/y concern Be it known that I, THEODORE R. TIMBY, of Saratoga Springs, vin the county of Saratoga, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Toilet Pin-Oase; and I hereby declare the following to be a sufficiently full, clear, and exact description, to enable one skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, to carry it intol effect, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which `are made part of this specication.
The subject of my invention is a pin-case, con'- structed externally in the form of a box, with either one or two covers, and as many diaphragme, perforated or imperforate, through which pins may be passed, in such a manner that their heads will be exposed, on removal of the cover, in convenient position for being withdrawn.
In the drawings- Figure l is a plan view of my pin-case, with the cover removed, the diaphragm here represented being perforated pasteboard. i
Figure 2 represents a vertical section of the same case, with the cover in position.
Figure 3 is a plan view of a similar case, with the diaphragm of partiallyperforated lpasteboard, the cover being omitted.
Figure 4 represents a vertical section thereof, withA the cover in position. V
Figure 5 is a plan view-of a case with an imperferate diaphragm, the cover being omitted.
Figure 6 represents a vertical section of the same, with the cover in position.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views, and in each the case isA shown partiallysupplied with pins.
B represents the box.
C, the cover.
D, the diaphragm, in which the pinsP are inserted, in the 'manner represented.
Instead of the bottom b, a second diaphragm and cover may be employed, so as to form a double case, with covers, both on top and bottom, capable of containing twice the quantity of pins.
The box and cover may be made of papel', pasteboard, metal, wood, or other suitable material, and the diaphragm D may also be made of various materials, as, for example, pasteboard, metal, cloth, strong paper, or paper strengthened with cloth.
In the illustration given in figs. 1 and 2, the pins are inserted in perforations in the diaphragm D and the cover C serves to prevent their escape therefrom.
The diaphragms shown in figs. 3 and 4 may be made by pasting a piece of cloth or imperforate paper d under the perforated pasteboard, metal, or wood. The
perforated part will thus serve to give the necessary ligidity to the diaphragm, while the imperforate lining may aord additional strength, and the pins being easily pressed through the imperforate cloth or paper, the said cloth or paper will-hold them more steadily and securely than will a diaphragm perforated completely through.
1f preferred, the diaphragm may be made as shown at D', in gs. 5 and 6, of cloth, pasteboard, or strong paper, or paper and cloth combined, Without any pel'- foiations. The pins can be easily pressed through such a diaphragm, and will be securely held thereby.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim, and desire lto secure by Letters Patent, is
As a new article of manufacture, the toilet pin-case herein described, consisting of a box, B, with one or more covers C, and one or more diaphragms D, adapted to receive and hold the pins, in the manner specied.
THEODORE R. TIMBY.
