Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed May 20, 1908. Serial No. 438,837.

To all whom it may concern:

Be itknown that I, SIMON ELBAUM, a citizen ofpthe United States, and a resident of Bayonne, State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Pocket for Shirts of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention relates to outer shirts for working men, mechanics and other persons, and its object is to provide a new and improved pocket for shirts, which is simple and exceedingly strong and durable in consame fabric material for containing a piece A being next struction, and provided with separate com partments, one for general storage purposes, one for the safe housing of a watch and one lead pencil, rule or the like.

The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, which will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claim.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a front elevation of a shirt provided with the provement; Fig. 2 is an enlarged transverse section of the same on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional plan view of the same on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1; and Figs. 4, 5 and 6 are face views ofthe blanks for forming the pocket in connection with the shirt.

The pocket is preferably formed of the as that used in making the shirt, of which he pocket'forms a part, and the pocket consists essentially of an in-v ner or main piece A, a front piece B overlying the main piece A, and a binding strip C extending on the inside of the main piece along the upper end thereof, the said main to the body D of the A and B and the strilp by stitches E along the sides and bottom of the said pieces A and B and'the sides of the strip 0, to form a main rear compartment F for general storage purposes, a compartment G on the front of the said main compartment-F for the reception of a watch, and a narrow compartment H alongside the compartments F and G for the reception of a rule, lead pencil or the like, the said compartments shirt, and the pieces 0 being fastened together and to the body in the county of Hudson and other garments.

The front piece B has its upper left hand corner B doubled up in an inward direction, to form an inclined top edge for the watch compartment G, as plainly shown in Fig. 1, to allow conven ent insertion or removal. of the watch, and on the inside of this front piece B is secured a loop I (see Fig. 2) for the passage of the watch chain, to prevent the watch from accidentally falling out of the compartment G whenever the person bends or stoo s over.

By the arrangement described t e pocket can be very cheaply manufactured, as by the .use of the overlying pieces A and B and the strip G, the said parts can be readlly fastened to ether and to the body D at one operation o sewing,-to form the three compartments described and shown.

The narrow pocketH is rendered espe cially strong by the'overlying pieces A and B (see Fig. 2) and by the portion of the binding strip C extending along the inside of the pocket at the upper end thereof.

By having the watch compartment G 1nclined on the top, the watch chain slips to the lowermost edge and thus forms no drag on the pocket.

A shirt and a pocket thereon, the pocket being formed of a main piece next to the shirt body, a front piece overlying the said main piece and a binding strip on the ins de of-the main piece along the upper port1on the said pieces and strip together and to t e shirt body to form a main compartment, a watch compartment in front of the main compartment, and a narrow compartment adjacent to the said main and watch compartments. v
