Be it known that we, llnnnnnier: Anonnrt and Tiioims H. Bii rns, citizens oi the United States, residing Chicago, county of Cook, and State of lllinois, have invented certain new and u= il improve-- ments in a Combination 'lloothdzlrush and Powderdlolder, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention relates to toilet articles and particularly to tooth brushes.

More especially our invention relates to combination folding tooth brush and case equipped with a receptacle for tooth powder.

The object of our invention is to provide a folding tooth brush, the handle of which shall constitute a casing for die brush'when in folded position.

A further object of our invention is to provide a combined folding tooth brush and case equipped with means for pieventing the water from passing up the stern of the brush into the handle or case.

A further object oi-our invention. is to pro-- vide a combination folding tooth brush and case and a receptacle for tooth powder are ranged within. the case.

A further object of our invention. is to provide a device as mentioned which shall light, strong and diu'able and which shall. present a neat appearance both l, .ioided. and opened positions.

T he casing comprises the two parts 1 and 2. lhese are elongated, hollow members, and are preferably hingedly connected and that at one end as at 3. The part 1 is preferably of greater depth than the part 2, and constitutes a receptacle for the brush when in tolded position, and the closed case constitutes a handle for the brush when in extended position.

The case formed of the parts 1 and 2 may be of uniform cross section throughout, but we prefer to reduce it somewhat in depth at the end to which the brush is connected, as indicated at 5. Rotatably mounted at the end of the portion 5 of the case member 1 is a cylindrical member 6 which fits snugly in the end of the case as shown in Fig. 1. The cylinder 6 is rotatably mounted upon-a transverse pin or axis 7, and it is to said cylinder that the brush is attached by a stem- 8. The portion. 2 constitutes a closure for the brush holding portion of the case and also a receptacle for tooth powder. To this end a powder holding compartment 14 is formed forming a part of this specification,

by a longitudinal partition 15 and a trans verse partltion 16, the latter being arranged adjacent to the curved wall connecting the body portion of the casevvith the reduced extension 5. The longitudinal plate 15 is erforated as at 17 and is parallel with the ace of the brush when in closed position. The

erforations are normally closed by a plate 18 ying against the plate and preferably within the'compartment 14. The plate 18 is I perforated as at 19120 corres 0nd with the perforations 17. When the p ate is in one position the perforations register and powder may be'shaken from the compartment onto the brush, while in normal position the plate 18 closes the perforations in the plate 15.

A spring '26 is interposed between the collar 25 and the wall 5 and normally holds the disk or collar in the countersink 24' which prevents the powder from sifting from the compartment at this point. The spring-also normally holds the plate 18 in position to close the perforations 17. To hold the case in closed position the ends of the portion 1 each side of the notch or aperture 11 is rovided with lugs or ribs 27 stamped out of t e metal and the portion 2 is provided with concave gage therewith/ The p ate 15 is provided with arr-aperture 29 for filling the receptacle 14. This is defined by a bushing 30 closed by a plug 31.

Having described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1.. In a device of the class described a two' part case, said arts being relatively movable to open and c ose the case in combination with a tooth brush hingedlyconnected to one of said parts and adapted to fold thereinto,

and 'a receptacle for tooth powder formed in the other art, said case belng adapted to entirely'inc ose said brush when the device is folded, substantially as described.

2. In a device of the class described an elongated two part case, said parts being hingedly connected at one end, in combinationwith a toothbrush hingedly connected to the opposite end of one-of said parts from said hinge and adapted to fold'thereint'o, and

4. In a device of the class described a two part case said parts being hingedly connected at one end in combination with a tooth brush hingedly connected to one of said parts at the end remote from the hinge and adapted to fold thereinto' when in closed osition, said case when in closed position wlth the brush extended forming a handle to said brush, and a disk on the stem of said brush, substantially as described.

5. In a device of the class described a two part case, said artsbeing relatively movable to open and close the case, in combination with a tooth brush hingedly connected to one of said parts and ada ted to fold thereinto and said case being a a ted to entirely inclose said brush, a receptac efor tooth powder formed in the other art and defined by a erforated plate paralle with the face of the hrush when in closed position, means for normally closin the perforations in said plate and means or opening the same from the outside of the case, substantially as described.-

6. In a device of the class described a two part case hin edly connected in combination with a tooth rush hingedly connected to one of said parts and adapted to fold thereinto, a

closed osition and a transverse plate, a perforate plate arranged within said receptacle and adapted in one position to close the perforations in said receptacle and in another 0- sition to 0 en the same, a rod connecte to second sai plate and extending through said transverse plate and the outer wall of the respective art of the casing, means for normally ho ding. said plates in closed position, and means on said rod adapted to engage said transverse plate to prevent powder from sifting therethrough, substantially as described.
