To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILFORD H. HoLs- CLAW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State v of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Corn- Shellers, of which the Following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in corn shellers.
The object of my invention is to provide a corn sheller which will be simple 1n construction, cheap to manufacture and effective in operation.
The invention consists of the constructions and combinations of parts hereinafter described and set forth in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is also a vertical sectional view of the same showing in additionthereto adjusting means, some of the parts also being broken away. Fig. 3 is a detail of the adjusting means referred to.
Like parts are represented by similar characters of reference in the several views.
In the said drawings, (t represents the main frame of the sheller having an upper hop er, a and a hub, o b is the usual toot .ed shelling disk mounted upon a shaft, b", with the shaft projecting from the toothed or front face of the disk, and revolubl mounted in the hub, a said toothed disk being adapted to cooperate with the ribbed face of the hopper to effect the shelling operation in a wellknown manner.
In corn shellers of this character, means are provided for holding the toothed rotating disk in yielding relation with the ribbed face of the hopper to permit the parts to yield with reference to each other when an ear of corn passes therethrough, a s pring being provided for this purpose; 'In my improved device,,I have so arranged this spring that the device will present a neat appearance, and the parts be less liable to get out 'of order. To accomplish this ,I have provided the hub, a with an enlarged portion or chamber and have inserted within this chamber about the shaft, F, a spring, 0.

In Figs. 2 and 3 I have shown adjusting means for the tensioning spring. In this construction the crank, N, is not screwthreaded upon the end of the shaft but is adapted to be keyed thereon so as to be movable upon the shaft in a longitudinal direction, the shaft, 19 being provided with a projecting pin, b adapted to fit a slot, 6 in the crank d; the shaft being screwthreaded at its end and provided with a locking nut, 5 to secure the crank thereon, and furnish the means for adjusting the tension of the spring 0. Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. In a corn sheller, a main frame having a chambered hub, a rotatable shaft located in said hub having a shelling disk thereon, a spring located about said shaft Within said hub, a crank on the end of said shaft, and a longitudinally slidable sleeve on said shaft between said spring and crank and held in position thereon by said crank, substantially as specified.
