ne. comme Speccation of'Letters Eatent.
estantes oet. eo, 1908.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it irnown that I, CHESTER @E. KINGSTON, citizen of the United States, residing` at Columbus, in the county of Lowndes and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Type- Writer 'lfableaof which the following; is a specilication.
Itis well known that in the teaching of the touchl7 system of typewritingy it is custoinary to blindfold the pupil, which is obviously an uncomfortable and disagreeable practice, or to blankthe keys of the typewriter, such latter being undesirable since the. pupil' learns .the lreys by continually rlhe o ect of this invention is an improved typewriter table which is designed to enable the y touch system to be taucht without the necessity of blindfolding the pupil or blanlring the keys of the machine and which completely obstruct vthe typewriter from the view of the pupil,`without inconveniencing the latter or in any way hindering the opera'- With this and other objects view that constructions and' arran einents of, parts that' l shall hereinafter ully describe and claim.
For a full understanding of the invention to the following Vdescription and accompanyn ing drawing, in which: Figure lA is a pers ective viewof my'improved typewriter talile, and Fig. 2is a side elevation thereof showing the screen raised out of operative position.
Correspondn and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the acc xnpanyingdrawing by the saine reference Eharacters.
My improved table embodies a body portion l supported by front legs 2 andnrear legs 3, and two standards 41: which project upwardly from the rear of the body portion l and which in the .present instance are formed by the upward extension of the rear legs 3., The screen 5 of the table is hingedly connected at its rear' end to the standards 4" at corresponding),l points thereof. This screen is designed to he heldover the body portion l, and for this purpose a supporting rod'. 6
of the screen, the other end of the rod being formed with 'a longitudinally extending slot 7 in which a stud 8 projecting from the corresponding side of the body portion 1, is
mounted. This stud normally shuts against the upper end of the slot`7, to'hold the screen 5 in an operative position, above and spaced from the body portion l.
The rod 6 is formed in the slot 7 with one or more downwardly facing shoulders El, which, upon the raising ofthe screen 5 and its attached rod 6', are desi i. ed to be engaged with the stud 8 to hol said screen in raised position.
.ln the practical use of my improved table, the screen 5 is securedin raised position and the typewriter'is plaedon the body portion 1 near the front thereof, the screen being then ylowered into operative position. ln such latter position the screen completely obscures the machine from the view of a pupil sitting in front of the table but it in no way hinders the operation'of the machine, since there is suiiicient space between said screen and the body portion l to permit the free movement of the pupils hands. It will also be noted that the screen may be easily and quickly raised and held in such position whenP it is desired to insert paper in the typewritercr the like.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is: y i
The herein described typewriter table concprising abody portion, front and rear pairs e of legs supporting' the saine, the rear legis being extended upwardly beyond the body portion' to form standards, a .screen pivotally secured at its rear end to the standards and arranged toextend over the body portion, a rod pivotallyconnected -at one end to the screen and formed at its other end with `in its margin witha slot provided near its lower end with a downwardly facing shoul der, andv a stud pro3ecting. from the body portion and slidingly mounted in the slot, said stud being arranged to abut against the upper end of the slot or the shoulder at the tid lower'end thereof, tohold the screen in a raised o'r lowered position, as and for this purpose specified.' w
, in testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
