JULIAN '1. MAYER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 20, 1908.
Application filed May 29, 1908. Serial No. 435,746.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIAN T. MAYER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a hinge or hanger for piano panels, music desks, frames and the like; and it has for its object a hanger which will permit of the unhampered forward and backward movement of the panel and at the same time securely hang the same in such a manner as to prevent all possibility of the said panel or the like falling or slipping out of position, and marring or damaging its highly polished surface or that of the piano body.
In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1, 2 and 3 are respectively a top view, side elevation and front elevation of the improved hanger. Fig. 4 is a view partly in section, showing the improved hanger in unlocked position and attached to the rear of the front panel of a piano, said panel being shown swung outwardly.
Similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several VIEWS- Referring to the drawings, 10 designates a securing member provided'with a number of screw holes 11 through which, by means of suitable screws, the same is adapted to be firmly attached to the rear of a anel 12 or the like (Fig. 4). A bearing face 13 integral therewith extends perpendicularly therefrom at one end, and is provided with an open bearing 1 1 and cut 15. The bearing 1 1 fits over a pin, screw or the like 16 which is attached or screwed into the side of frame 17 of the piano body.
Pivotally secured to the outer face of the securing member 10 is a locking member 19 provided with an offset 20 adapted to fit the cut 15 when in lowered position and thereby close the bearing 14 and secure the pin 16 against lateral displacement. A thumb piece 21 is provided in connection therewith to aid in the manipulation of the same. One of these hangers is attached at each of the two ends of the panel or the like and are of reversed construction in order to adapt themselves to the different locations.
When the locking member is in the cut 15 as shown in Figs. 1 to 3, the bearing 14 is closed and the pin 16 positively prevented from accidentally slipping out of the said bearing, thereby insuring the panel against accidental displacement and consequent damage to itself and to the piano. The said panel or the like as thus hung is entirely unhampered on its backward and forward movements, and may be readily removed by raising the locking member 19 as shown in Fig. 4; and lifting the panel out of engagement with the pins.
I claim A hanger for piano panels and the like, comprising: a securing member adapted to be attached to, said panel or the like, and having a bearing face integral therewith and extending perpendicularly thereto, said face being provided with an open bearing and a cut; and a locking plate or member pivoted to said securing member adapted to fit said out and thereby close said bearing.
Signed at New York city in the county of New York and State of New York this 12th day of May A. D. 1908.
JULIAN T. MAYER.
