. L eumramlvo. 89,975, daad Ma@ 1.1, 18593 v p' miPRovnMNT IN sAsH- FASTENER y f The Schedule referred to'in these Letters' Ptent and making of the same.
, l Beit known that I, IONATHA L. DEVOL, of Parler` i `ersburg,in fthecounty of` Wood, and 4State, of West Virginia, have invented anew and useful Improve` ment in Sash-Fasteners; fand I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of y the same, freference, being had to the 'annexed drawings, making part of this specification, in which--l Figure 1 is a vertical elevati'onrof a window, show- .ing my improvement applied thereto, the dotted `lines SllOWiDgthe lever orcatch for securing the sash in the desired-position; i i l Figure 2 isa perspective view of the handle, by
which the sash. is to be raised, and of the lever for withdrawing the dog or catchy .Figure-3 is.a transverse section of the same, showing its attachmenttothe bar of the sash; and
i Figure `4t is an elevation of va portion of the sash, land of the dog or catch, with the spring, or catch, which acts upon the same, shown on an enlarged scale. Corresponding letters refer to corresponding parts in all the gures.
This invention relates to improvements in window- 'sash fasteners; and Y It consists in the combination-of the parts of which' "it is composed, and-in the construction of the lever for operating thedevice, as will be more fully described hereafter.A Y ,l
A, `in the drawings,represents the sash of a window,
which may be of any desired size and form of construction,to meet the requirements of the architect.
Bl represents what may be termed a-sashlifteror r'aiser, which `may be made of sheet or cast-metal.
When itis made of the first-mentioned kind, it may be stamped `or cut from the sheet, and swaged` or formed lin a die, prepared for the purpose. -It should have a ange projecting from" its-upper surface, for a distance sufficiently great toadmit of there .being screw-,lioles'drilled therein for securing it to the bar of the sash. It also'hasdownwardly-projecting flanges i upon -its ends, to which the lever O is pivoted.
- O represents 'a lever or handle, which is` so formed `as to fit the cavity formed in the under side of the lifter, but which passes beyond the inner surface of such lifter, to enable it to act upon the bell-crank le-v ver or stop D, asshown clearly in fig. 3 of the drawings. -v
y Thislever or handle is pivoted to the flanges which are formed upon the ends of the lifter, in such a man nei-that when the latter is grasped by the hand, for
the purpose of raising the sash, the outer end thereof will be raised, and, of course, the inner end will be `depressed, and be caused 'to bear upon the horizontal arm of the bell-crank lever D,which will causerthe projection uponits vertical portion to be withdrawn' from its recess in the frame of the window or its casing, and the sash will 'be at liberty to rise or fall, at the will of the operator. Y i c I) represents'a bell-crank lever, which is to-be pivoted at its angle to the sash, into a groove in which it fits, as clearly shown in g. 4, in Which-figure it is shown as in a position to, secure the sash in its posi-` v tion, Whether raised or lowered.
E represents a spring, which is to be inserted into the groove, which is formed in the sash forthe receptionof lever D, in such a manner as to bear upon the inside of .such lever, and thus, at the propertime, to force it into the position shown in iig. 4:` of the drawings. l l
Having `thus described my invention,
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, c
The construction of the handle B and lever O, and their arrangement with reference tothe bell-crank le' verD, substantially as shown and described.
l lIn testimony whereof', I have signed my name to this specification, -in-the presence of twoA subscribing Witnesses.
