The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part or the same To all whom "it 'may conce/rn;

Be it known that I, HORACE J. WICKHAM, of Manchester, county of Hartford, and State of Connecticut, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in the Manufacture of PocketFCases; and to enable others skilled. in the art to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe their construction and operation, reference being had to the drawings, in which vthe same letters indicate like parts in each of the rllhe nature of this invention consists in forming the shell open at one end, and one side cut away a short distance from the open end, so that when the cover is turned open the contents will be easily accessible; and further, in forming the cover open on one side, with a back to cover the opening of the side and end of the box, and with hinge-straps, and securing the cap to the box by depressions or protuberances formed in or on the straps, which enter orifices or depressions formed in the sides of the box, and of a watch-key stem, secured to the box to furnish a ready means of Winding up a watch in the absence of a key.

The accompanying drawings show two of the many purposes for which this box may be conveniently used.

a is the box, open at the end and cut or curved out of one side, so as to render the material placed in the box readily accessible by the ingers.

b is the cap of the box, having strap sides, .c c. The

straps extend a little distance below the edge of the cover or caps b, and are provided with depressions or elevations d, which close upon or enter orifices c, thus securely hinging the cover to the box, and allowing the cover to freely open and close when desirable.

f is a watch-key stem, secured to the box or cover, which serves the convenient purpose of a key to wind a watch.

This mode of construction prevents the liability of the cover becoming detached from the box, or of opening while in the pocket because of the pressure upon either side.

` This box or case is susceptible of being used for a cigar, match, stamp-box, &c.

I believe I have thus shown the nature, construction, and advantage of this invention, so as to enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same thereom.

What I c1aim,therefore, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The box c, cover b, stem f, constructedsubstantially as described, as a new improved article of man-` ufacture.

2. In combination with the above, the `oint formed by elevations and depressions d e, substantially as and for the purpose described.
