PINEAPPLE-CORER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JAMES LINDSAY, a citizen-of the United States, residing at Haiku, Maui, Territory of Hawaii, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pinegple-Corers, of which the following is a spec' cation.

My invention relates to improvements in pineapple coring machines; and the object of my improvements is to provide a construction giving a high efficiency at moderate cost.

In the drawing-Figure 1 is a side elevation view of my improved pineapple corer,

portions of which are shown in section; and Fig. 2 a fragmentary view of the lever operating the machine.

Referring to the drawing in detail-The reference numeral 1 represents a head made preferably from cast iron or other suitable metal and having a foot 2 ada ted to be seated on and secured to a suitab e base by bolts inserted in the o enings 3. Secured in and projecting from t e face of the said head is a pointed pin 4 adapted to receive and hold a pineapple. Formed in the face of the head and surrounding said pin is an annular recess 5 in which there is a cushion 6, made preferably from wood or other suitable material. The purpose of this cushion will soon appear. Opposite the face of the head 1 is a second head or frame 7 having therein a cylindrical horizontal opening 8 and provided with a foot 9 adapted to be mounted on and secured to a suitable sup ort by bolts, screws, or the like inserted in t e openings 10, Secured to and projecting downwardly from the base 9 is an arm 11, at the lower end of which there is hinged a link 12. Hinged to the outer end of said link 12 is a lever 13 having a handle 14, and provided near its central portion with a frame 15. Slidably arranged in the opening 8 in the head 7 and surrounded by a bushing 16 is a cylindrical cutter 17 having secured on its outer end a head 18 'pivotally mounted on two studs or pivots 19 mounted on the frame 15. Arranged between the head 18 and the cylindrical cutter 17 is a screw threaded bushin 20 for clamping and holding the cutter in p ace.

The operation of my pineapple corer is as follows: The tubular cutter 17 is drawn outwardly with the lever. The pinea ple is then inserted between the heads 1 an 7 with the pin 4 inserted in the core of the pineapple. The tubular cutter is then passed through the pineapple from its opposite end I Specification of Letters Patent.

by means of the lever. As the cutting end of the cutter passes through the pineapple, it is received by the cushion 6 to prevent dulling the cutting edge. As the next pinea ple is treated in the same way, the core of t e latter pushes the core of the former one through i the tubular cutter and it is discharged from the outer end of the cutter.

An adjustable collar or stop 21 is preferably secured on the tubular cutter 17 to engage the outer end of the head and govern the length of the stroke of the cutter. Surrounding the tubular cutter 17 is a collar 22 made preferably of leather or other'suitable yielding material and adapted to rovide a cushion between the collar 22 and t e head 7.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In a pineapple corer, a head having an annular recess formed in its face, and having a screw threaded opening formed in the bottom of the recess; a cushion or cutting block arranged in said recess, and provided with a central opening; a threaded pin screwed into the first named opening, and projecting through the central opening in the cushion or cutting block, and adapted to pierce and support a pineap le; a frame having a head rovided with a ore o posite said pin, and

aving a base provide with an opening; a vertical arm having its upper end secured in the latter opening; a horlzontal link having one end hinged to the lower end of said arm; a vertical lever having its lower end hinged to the outer end of the link, and having'on its u per end a removable handle, and having l detween its ends a frame having two threaded openings inits opposite sides; a tubular cutter slidably arranged in said bore, and adapted to remove the core from a pineapple mounted on said pin, and carrying on its outer end a bushing and a ring, said ring surrounding said bushing and having openings formed in its op osite sides; threaded studs or pivots secured in the openings in the lever frame, and having their inner ends arranged in theopenings in the said rin and a collar or stop mounted on the tubu ar cutter and adapted to engage the first named frame, all for the purpose set forth.

2. In a pineapple corer, a head having a pin projecting from its face, and carrying a cushion or cutting block surrounding said pin cured to said base; a link having one end hinged to said arni; a lever having'one end hinged to said link, and having on its opposite end a handle, and having between its ends a frame provided with two studs or pivots projecting inwardly from its opposite sides and a tubular cutter slidably arranged in said bore, and having its cutting end adapted to receive said pin and engage said cushion or cutting block, and having secured 10 on its opposite end means pivotally mounted on said studs.
