objects I attain by the novel construction and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side view of my improved halter shown in position on the head of a horse. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the halter alone. Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of the crossing of the rope back of the right eye of the horse, with the metal clasp at that crossing intersected. Fig. 4 is a plan view of one of the sheet metal blanks from which the clasps are formed. Fig. 5 shows the blank in 1 Fig. 4 closed as when applied to the rope, and

in dotted line as bent before placing the rope in it.

Referring to the drawing by reference numerals, the main parts of the halter are formed of a single rope which has in one end secured a ring 6, and from said ring it extends upwardly to formthe crown-band 7, thence downwardly and forwardly'forming the cheek bar 88, thence downwardly at about right angle to the cheek-bar, forming the noseband 99 9 9", thence upwardly and rearwardly, forming the other cheek bar 8 8, thence upwardly forming the front piece 10, thence downwardly crossing the bar 8, to which it is secured, and further downward to form the throat-latch 11; the end of the rope is finally provided with a snap-hook 12, which when the halter is in use engages the ring 6, and when disengaged from the ring the halter is open or free to be removed from the head of the animal.

Between the throat-latch 11 and the lower and double portion 99 of the nose band extends the halter-tug 13, which may be of leather, and may be attached to the parts by the ring 14, cock-eye 15 and loop 16 as shown.

At the points near 8, 8, 8, and 9 the ad-' jacent ropes are firmly secured together by clasps 17, each of which is formed from a blank about like 17 in Fig 4, stamped of soft steel, wrought iron or other metal, or cast from malleable iron, with a plate 17 having three fiat arms 17*, and 17, which before the clasp is applied to the rope are bent as shown in dotted lines in Fi 5, and when applied to the rope the arms 17 are curved inward upon the rope and squeezed over it so as to grip it tightly, and the arm 17 0 is curved inward between and upon the two parts of the rope thus held, so as to spread them to the desired angle apart and also coact with the arms 17' in holding the rope firmly. Such closing of the clasps orclamps is done very quickly by suitable dies (not shown).

At the crossing of the ropes near 8 in Fig. 2 I prefer to pass one rope between the strand of the other, as shown in Fig. 3, and flatten the crossing out some before putting on the clamp.

In the use of the halter a hitching strapor other strap, rein or rope (not shown) may have a snaphook engaging the ring 14, or may be otherwise secured to the ring or to any other part of the halter.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is l. A single-rope halter comprising loops or bights forming a nose-band, two cheek-bars, a crown-band, the front band 10 and the throat-latch 11, secured together at contacting and intersecting points, the ends of the rope terminating and meeting in one side of the throat-latch, a ring in one of the ends and a snap-hook in the other end adapted to engage the ring when the halter is in use.

A single-rope halter comprising 100 s or bights forming a nose-band, two cheek ars, a crown-band, the front band 10 and the throat-latch 11, secured together at contacting and intersecting points, the ends of the rope terminating in one side of the throatlatch, a ring in one of the ends and a snaphook in the other end adapted to engage the ring when the halter is in use, and a haltertug connecting the lower art of the noseband and of the throat-late In testimony whereof I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
