imaojvnn WEATHER-STRIP.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same. I
To all whom it ma/y conce/rn:
Be it known that I, A. J HARMON, of Charlestown, in the county of ,Middlesex and State of Massacl1usetts, have invented certain Improvementsin Weather'- Strips; and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, andexact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l represents my weather-strip in perspective, front view. Figure 2 is a back view of my invention, showing spring-hinge. A
The object of my inventionlis to produce a weatherstrip, which is simple in construction, durable, not liable to get out of order, and one that can be manufactured at a low rate.
The nature of my invention consists in hanging the weather-strip, or apron to the main piece, by means of a spring-hinge, and the apron being allowed to turn lin a groove in the stationary part.
In the drawings, A is an apron, or strip, hung, by spring-hinge D D, to hoard B. This board B is attached to the lower end of a door, so that apron A stands out, as shown in lig. l, from the-door, when it is opened, but when shut, it is brought down by any of the means used in similar cases, too well known to need description.
Y piece.
The peculiarities of this invention, and its novel features, are the spring-hinge D D and groove c. v
The spring-hinge is constructed by wire,b,. having coil a, extending to e, and being `jointed with arms it.
The wire formingthe coils au and 'parts b b, is in one attached to board B. V
. The action of this spring-hinge is double. It acts as a hinge on which turns the apron A, and as a spring to keep itin th'e position required.
The part d of apron A turns in groove c of board B easily, and without opening a space to the weather,
If any obstruction gets into groove c, the spring VD allows the parts A and B tobe pulled apart, to admitv of the removal of the obstruction. A
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Ilet- The part of the spring-hinge having coils is
