Description
PATENTED MAR. 31. 1908.
G. WETTLAU-FBR.
SKIRT SUPPORTER..
APPLICATION FILED OCT. 22,1906.
TIE- l n w 4 M w UNITED STATES; PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE WETTLAUFER, OF STRATFORD, ONTARIO, CANADA.
SKIRT-SUPPORTER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE WETTLAUFER,
a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Stratford, in the Province of Ontario and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skirt-Supporters; and I do declare the follow ing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the 'art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention is an improved device for supporting ladies skirts at the waist, and it consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of the invention is to providea device of this character, which may be easily applied and removed, and which will effectively support the skirt and hold the shirtwaist down in its proper position.
The above and other objects, which will appear as the nature of my invention is better understood, are accomplished by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a view showing the a plication ofthe invention; Fig. 2 is a vertica sectional view through the same; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device.
Referring to the drawings by numeral, 1 denotes a portion of a ladys skirt, 2 denotes a portion of a shirtwaist, and 3 denotes my improved supporting device, which is worn at the back or rear of the waist, and comprises a plate of metal or the like 4 and a strip of tape or the like 5. The latter is passed through loops 6, formed at the rounded ends of the metal strip 4 by stamping and bending thesame, as shown; and its ends are tied together after being passed around the waist. The metal plate 4 is of substantially rectan ular form, and in its lower portion is provided a right-angular slot or opening 7, which forms a longitudinally extending tongue 8. This tongue 8 is adapted to be inserted in a pocket 9 formed by sewing, or otherwise securing a piece of fabric upon the center of the back of the waist, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings. The top or upper edge of the plate 4 Specification of Letters Patent.

is adapted to be engaged by a series of hooks 10, which are attached to the waistband of the skirt 1, so that the latter will be properly supported.
The use, construction and advantages of the invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. It will be seen that when the tongue 8 is engaged with the socket or keeper 9 upon the waist, and the ends of the tape or string 5 are tied at the front, the skirt 1 will be properlysupported by the engagement of the hooks 10 with the upper edge of the late 4, and at the same time the waist 2 will be held down in its proper position. The device may be readily applied and removed, and it is of simple, and comparatively inexpensive construction.
.Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of theadvantages of the invention, as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is,
In a skirt supporter and in combination with a garment having a rear open-ended ocket, a supporting member comprising a ength of flexible material having transverse straps struck therefrom at points adjacent its ends and provided between said straps with a longitudinal slot terminating at one end in an outwardly opening transverse slot, providing the member with a single longitudinally disposed tongue adapted to extend wholly through the pocket and for entrance thereinto by an endwise movement of the member in one direction only, and a tape passed through said straps and designed to encircle the wearers waist.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
GEORGE WETTLAUFER.
