` BEDSTEAD.
speciacatin of Letters Patent. Application med october-a1, 1907. smal No. 400,011.
. ,Patented :auch a, y190s To all whom it may concern:
Be vit known that I, BRUNO man Emperor, residing at Erfurt, Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented ner that in both end positions itsends vwhich are solid,` close the o' ening in the Walllike by a door. Such a edstead makes'it unnecessary tohave a separate bedroom,l and at the same time is not in evidence during the day and does not stand in the way, and
therefore, will effect a considerable saving of space in rivate houses, and more particularly in iotels, boarding houses, sanatoriums andthe like.
A construction of vbedstead according to -this invention "is illustrated by Way of example in the accompanying drawing in side elevation in Figure 1, and in front elevation in Fig. 2..
The bedstead a is arranged so that it can travel on rollers b whichare rotatable about i'ixedfk arallel horizontal axes so that movement'of the bed in the rectilinear path is insured', When itis to be used, the bedstead I Aa. is introduced into the room or bedroom f through an opening d'in the wall, and after having been used, is again removed from the same. During `such movement, the bed- -stead is guided by means of .rails or guides 't secured to its longitudinal members engaging with rollers :z: provided in the opening in the wall and rotatable 'about vertlcal spindles.
Owing to this guidance, the bedstead cannot turn into an oblique position during ,its re moval orintroduction.'` The rails or guides 'i are preferably arranged at the lowest or- .tion of the longitudina members of the ed.
i In its two end positions, the 'bedstead closes,
with its solid ends g, the opening d in the wall in such manner that no sound can pass, and
the opein'ngis not noticeable at all.
'If the room 7i intowhich the bedstead is introduced when4 out of use, be very small, in order-toeconomize space, a cupboard-like ..5 casing (mirror and toilet table 7c) can be ar- 5 ranged in frpli' of the cpening in the wall as shown dottedin'v .the
awin'gs. The front SCHERL, mer-v chant, a subject of the King of Prussia, Ger.
said positions.
stea end of the bedstead when the latter is ushed out of the room projects into the sai.' casing and forms with it 'the ont-wall ofan apparent cabinet -of any suitable character/fao such as a cupboard or chest of drawers.
. The making vof the bed is effected, for thepurpose of avoiding as far as possible making the room dusty, preferably when 'in its, pushedou't position, that is to say, in the 65'- space h, or when the latter is not easily ac cessible, inthe roomf before being ushed out, the bed-linen etc. (more particu arly in hotels,) being preferably arranged in a wall cupboard in the rooms h orf arranged above 10 the bed, or the u per portionof the correspondingly exten ed cupboard k can" open towards f or' h and beformed into Ia-linen-cupboard.
WhatIclaimisz. 1. The combination with a partition'having apassage therethrough, of a bedstead guided to move longitudinally through said passage and adapted to occupy reverse position on 'opposite sides'of the partition, the 80 bedstead having endv pieces which serve respectively to close vthe assage in the partitionwhen `the bedstea occupieseither' of 2. The combination with apartition hav- A ing a transverse passage'therethrough, of a bedstead guided to "move longitudinally through said passage carrying a air of vert1, cal end pieces 'and rovided with ongitudinal guide. rails, ad re atively 'fixed guide rollers 90 mountedpn l the partition and arrangedl to' coperate with saidlguide rails on the bedstead, the latter being ada tedto o ccupya position on either side of t e partition, and
the end-pieces serving respectively to close the.. assage in the partition while thebedd) occupies'either of the said positions. 3. The combination with a partition -hav' ing a transverse passage therethrough, of `a bedstead provided with su porting .rollers lmounted on iixed'horiz'onta .axes-,lengitudinal guide rails fixed on opposite sides of the bedstead, a pair of vertical end. pieces .carried onv each end of the bedstead and guide rollers mounted on fixed' vertical.- axes lona '105 the partition and arranged to cooperate .with
the guide rails on the' bed to insure a rectilinear movement of the"latter through said.'
passage, the end-pieces serving .respectively to close the passage in the punition-While the bedstead' occupies a positloh a1. ertheglz side thereof.,- l l 4. The combination with a partition ha'v-l ing a 'transverse passage extending therethrough, of a hedstea-dguided to move longi-u v partition, and a cabinet projecting from one side ofthe partition above the passage therein, one end of the bedstead being arranged to cooperate With said cabinet to provide a front section therefor, When the bedstead occupies one position, and ari-opposite end serving to close the passage in the partition when the bedstead occupies a reverse position.
In'testimony whereof I have hereunto set 15 my hand in presence of twosubsoribirig Witnesses..
