Description

PATENTED 1 31;. 25, 1908 L. 0. SMITH.
DOOR SBGURER.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 26. 1907. I
attouww OFFICE.
LEWIS G. SMITH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DOOR-SECURER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 25, 1908.
Application filed April Zh- 1907- Serizd No. 370.387.
To all whom it may concern:
Be 1t known that I, LEWIS C. SMITH, a. citizen of the bmted States, residing at ew York city, in the county of New York, State of New York, have invented certain new and Another object is to provide it secure:-
which may be im nufa-ctured at a low figure.
l-.i the drawings forming a portion of this specification and in,whicb like numerals of reference indicate imihir ports in the several views, Fiwrc 1 is a. sectional view of a portion of a door and the frame thereof, the present invention beingillustrated in use in connection. therewith. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the complete fastener.
Rolex-ring now to the drawings, the present invention comprises a. plate 5 having anenhirged rounded portion 6 at one end and having a latcrallyextending finger S at its opposite end, the plate being longitudinally slotted, as shown at 7, between its rounded portion and its finger.
Formed longitudinally through the rounded portion there .vhich communicates with the slot 7 and engaged in this passage there is a set-screw It) having a. flattened finger-piece 1 l at its other end.
A member 12 is providedv which is in the form oi an elongated block and this block is l'ormed ttl one corner thereof with :1 pltnolit ol" stepped notches therein, as shown at 13, the sides of these notches extending at right- ;mgles to each other and parallel with the corresponding edges of the member. Formed utthe long side of the block which joins the.
notched surface, end at the opposite end of this side from the notched surl'ure there is'a, tmiisversely-lmoadened portion H which, in practice, rests against the door.
in use, the linger 8 is insertml in the latcle receiving recess (L of a. door-frame, and the door is hen closed against the plate The is a. threaded passage 9,
member 12 is then inserted in the slot 7 with its broadened port-ion 14 resting against the door und'the set-screw 1.0 is then operated to clamp the member securely in position.
it is a well-known fact that the face plate I), which is secured "to the door-frame and which has the openings 0 through which the latch and bolt of a lock niss to secure the door, generally extends sl ightly beyond the side of the door-frame, which lies in the direction in which the door swings open, this projecting portion of the plate receiving therezigainst the beveled face of the doorlntch, and the notches 13 are; disposed to receive this outwardly projecting portion of the face plate to give the member 12 an even bearing SUIlzWC at both sides of the plate 5, and the plurality ol notches 13 is provided so that the member not be adjusted to suit face plates extending zltdill'orent distances beyond the door frame.
While the invention has been described and illustrated in connection with a door and its frame, it is to be understood that it may be a )plied with equal facility to a window, and iorms, in either instance, a keyless lock which is practically; burglar-proof.
\Vhat is claimed,
A door securer comprising a plate having an enlarged portion at. one end and having a luternllv-cxtending linger-zit its opposite end, said .phrto. having a. longitudinal slot' between its enlarged portion and linger, said enlarged portion barring a. threaded longitudinal passage formed therethrough communicating with the slot, :1 member engugcd in the slot and extending oppositelybeyond the plate, said member having a broadened portion at one end 11nd at its side which lies in lllt' direction of" the linger and having its corner at its opposite end from the broadened portion in the direction ol' the linger cut away at an angle, the resulting slanting lure being not hed, and it screw engaged in the threaded passage :1 d impinging against the member. said linger being adapted or engsgemont in the'oponing of a door-frame inc: plate, and said member being adopted to receive on edge oi said face plate in its notches intcrclmngeubly.
.l n testimony whereof I allix' my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
