Description

Q Sigg@ ,time ganci JOHN MERRILL, or FREEPORT, MAINE.l i Leumpatemlvo. 87,956, dated Mam. 16,1869.l
IIWPRO'VEMENT IN' SAW-SETS.
Th Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the lame.
MPO-
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN MERRILL, of Freeport, in the county of Cumberland, and State of Maine, have invented a new and improved Saw-Set; and I do hereby declare thatthe following is a full and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
My invention relates to a newand improved sawset, and consists yin a peculiar construction of the same, whereby it may be readily adapted for setting teeth of large and small saws, and adjusted in such a manner as to giveany desired angle of inclination to the said teeth. I,
Inthe annexed drawing- A and B represent, respectively, the'two principal parts of the saw-set.
The part A may be made in any ofthe Icommon forms in use, or soA constructed as to have one of its edges, a, thickerthau the other edge, a', so that slit c may admit of being adapted to fine or coarse teeth.
Upon the end, D, of the part A, a thread is cut, forming a screw, which iits a corresponding female screw out in one end of the gauge-piece B.
gle having been found, by experiment, to be best adapted to the purpose for which my invention is used.
The methodof using my invention is readily seen. The gauge-arm B is adjusted in any desirable posi- 'tion by turning the same upon the screw cut upon the part The saw-teeth arethen inserted into the slitli and snflicient force used by the hand to bring the end,
b', of the gauge-arm B in contact with the plate 'of the saw, .the angle formed by the saw-teeth being thus exactly determined, and uniformly regulated.
Claims.
Having thus described and dened my invention,
I claimv v 1. The gauge-arm B, substantially as described.
2. A saw-set, made by the combination and arrangeymentof the gauge-arm B and the part A, substantially asfdescribe JOHN MERRILL. Witnesses:
WILLIAM MERRILL, WILLIAM A. MITCHELL.
