UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
HANS HANSEN, OF WARWICK, NORTH DAKOTA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO EDWARD A. GUSTAFSON, OF WARWICK, NORTH DAKOTA.
STOVE-HOOD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 18, 1908.
Application filed April 23. 1907. Serial No. 369.776.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, HANS HANSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at VVarwick, in the county of Benson and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Hoods, of 'which the following is a specification, reference being had therein tothe accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in hoods for stoves, particularly cooking stoves.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and practical device of this character which may be readily applied to and adjusted upon a stove pipe so as. to conduct all the odors, fumes and smoke arising from the stove and the utensils, thereon, out through the chimney.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings,in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved stove hood, showing it applied to a cooking stove; Fig. 2 is a view of the same, partly in elevation and partly in section; and Fig. 3 is a detail view of one of the clamps.
In the drawings, the numeral 1 denotes a cooking or other stove and 2 the smoke pipe of the same.
My invention comprises a hood 3 of suitable size and preferably of rectangular shape with outwardly and downwardly flared orinclined sides 4. Projecting vertically from the top of the hood is a pipe section 5 which telescopes into a vertical pipe section 6 connected by an elbow 7 to a horizontal pipe section 8 which latter opens into the stove pi e 2 and contains an ordinary damper or va ve 9. The pipe 5 slides in the pipe 6 to permit the hood to be adjusted vertically toward and from the top of the stove and it may be held in an adjusted position therein by a clamp 10, such as illustrated in Fig. 3. This clamp consists of two similar semi-circular sections 11 hingedly connected at one end, as shown at 12, and having their opposite ends formed with radially projecting lugs or ears 13 apertured to receive a clamping bolt or the like 14. When the latter is tightened, the two half sections or members of the clamps are drawn together to compress the telescoping pipes 5, 6 for the purpose of retaining the former in the latter, but in order to relieve the clamp 10 and hence the pipe section 8 of the weight of the hood, I preferably employ a supporting frame 15. The latter consists of upper and lower clamps 16, 17 which are similar to the clamps 10 and are arranged upon the stove pipe 2.
Secured to one side of the upper clamp 16, as shown at 18, is a right angular rod 19, the horizontal arm 20 of which extends forwardly and projects through two eyes or U-shaped loops 21 suitably secured upon the top of the hood. This engagement of the rod with the eyes 21 permits of the ready disconnection of the hood and support. The other or vertical arm 22 of the rod 19 is adapted to telescope into a vertically projecting tube 23 secured. to the lower clamp 17. A set screw 24 is provided in the upper end of the tube or sleeve 23 to impinge against the rod 22 and retain it in an adjusted position therein.
From the foregoing it will be observed that the invention may be readily applied to any stove having an upright smoke pipe, since all that is necessary is the attachment of the pipe 8 and the clamps 16, 17 to the stove pipe. These clamps, as well as the clamp 10, may be readily applied to and removed from a pipe because of the hinge connection at one end of their members and the removable bolt or the like connection at the opposite end. Since the clamps 16, 17 may be adjusted upon any portion of the stove pipe and may be moved toward and from each other by the telescopic connection between the parts 22, 23, and also by reason of the telescopic engagement of the pipe 5 with the pipe 6, the hood may be raised or lowered as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination with a stove and its pipe, of a 1pipe having one end in communication wit 1 the stove pipe and its other end depending and arranged above the stove top, a hood, a pipe arising from the latter and telescopically engaged with the dependin end of the last mentioned pipe, upper anr lower clamps arranged upon the stove pipe, slidably engaged and adjustably connected members carried by said clamps, and means connecting the member upon the upper clamp to said hood.
2. The combination with a stove and its pipe, of a pipe having one end in communication with the stove pipe and its other end depending and arranged above the stove top, a hood, a ]pipe arising from the latter and telescopicaly engaged with the depending end of the last mentioned pipe, upper and lower clamps upon said stove pipe, a guide member upon the lower clamp, a right angular su porting member upon the upper clamp and sidably engaged with said guide and means connecting said right angular supporting member to the hood.
3. The combination with a stove and its pipe, of a pipe having one end in communication with the stove pipe and its other end depending and arranged above the stove top, a hood a pipe arising from the latter and telescopically engaged with the depending end of the last mentioned pipe, a clamp surrounding said telescoping pipes, eyes arranged upon said hood, upper and lower clamps upon said stove pipe, slidably engaged and adjustably connected supporting members carried by said clamps, and a horizontal arm .upon the member on the upper clamp engaged with said eyes upon the hood, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiiX my signature in presence'of two witnesses.
HANS HANSEN. VVi'tnesses:
E. A. GUsTAFsoN,
OSCAR SALMON.
