OIL-HEATER PROTECTOR.

Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD I-I. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of N ew York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Oil-Heater Protector, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention relates to stoves and furnaces, and its object is to provide a new and improved protector for oil heaters, arranged to securely hold the heater in place, to prevent persons from coming accidentally in contact with the heater, to catch and retain any drip oil of the heater and to protect walls or furniture from the deleterious influences of the radiating heat.

The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, which will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a transverse section of the improvement on the line l1 of Fig. 2, and showing the oil heater in position; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, parts being in section; Fig. 3 is an enlarged transverse section of part of the improvement, the section being on the line 33 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is an enlarged side elevation of the retaining band or rin The stand A of the oil heater protector is in the form of a pan or box open at the top and provided at the corners with legs B adapted to rest on the floor or other support.

In the stand A is arranged a platform 0 on which rest the legs D of the oil heater E of any approved construction, the said heater legs D being engaged by a retaining ring or band F adjustably secured to the top of the platform C, to accommodate heaters of different sizes. The platform C is provided with depending flanges or legs C resting'on the bottom of the stand A, to raise the platform a short distance above said bottom, and the said platform is provided with a central drip opening C for the passage of any oil that drips from the oil heater E, and which drip oil can readily accumulatein the stand A.

' The retaining band or ring F has overlapping ends and elongated slots F, of which the slots at the ends are engaged by a bolt G, for

securing the overlapping ends together after the band or ring is made larger or smaller, according to the size of the oil heater to be accommodated. The remaining slots F are engaged by bolts H, held on the vertical members of angular lugs I, adjustably fastened to the platform C by bolts J, which engage the horizontal members of the lugs I and extend through elon ated slots C formed diagonally in the p atform C. By the arrangement described the lugs I are adjustably secured on the platform C, and the adjustable band or ring F is adjustably secured on the lu s I to suit the size of the oil heater. The sides A and the back A of the stand A are somewhat extended above the front of the stand, and the said side exten- I sion portions are perforated to admit air to the oil heater, to insure proper burning thereof. Now by the arrangement described the oil heater is securely held in the stand and protected by the latter, so that persons are not liable to come in contact with the oil heater.

In order to prevent damage to walls, furniture and the like, from undue radiation of heat from the oil heater, an extension shield K is provided, preferably removably held on the sides A and back A of the stand A, as plainly illustrated in the drawings. 'The shield K has side flanges, the lower ends of which are slotted and engage studs or bolts L, held on the sides A of the stand A, and the shield K is also provided with a tongue N, extending against the inner face of the back A, said tongue being provided with a stud N which engages a slot in the back A, to securely hold the shield in place on the stand A, and to allow convenient and quick removal of the same whenever it is desired to do so. By the use of the shield the protector with the oil heater supported thereon-can be moved close to a wall or a piece of furniture without danger of damage by radiation of heat from the heater.

The protector is very simple and durable in construction and can be cheaply manufactored.

Having thus described my invention, I

claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. An oil heater rotector provided with a box-like stand, a p atform in the said stand and having depending flanges resting on the bottom of the said stand, the said platform having a central drip opening, and a retaining device on the top of the said platform for engagement With the legs of the oil heater.

2. An oil heater protector provided with a box-like stand, a platform in the said stand and having depending flanges resting on the bottom of the said stand, lugs held adjustably on the said platform, and an adjustable ring attached to the said lugs.

3. An oil heater protector provided With a box-like stand, a platform in the said stand and having depending flanges resting on the bottom of the said stand, the said platform having elongated slots, angular lugs, bolts engaging the said lugs and the said elongated slots for adjustably securing the lugs in place on the said platform, and a ring or band having overlapping ends and provided With elongated slots, a bolt for fastening the said overlapping ends together, and bolts engaging the said angular lugs and the elongated slots in the said ring, to adjustably secure the ring to the said lugs.

4. An oil heater protector provided With a box-like stand, a platform in the said stand and having depending flanges resting on the bottom of the said stand, and a retaining device on the top of the said platform for engagement With the legs of the oil heater.

5. An oil heater protector comprising a boXlike stand having legs, the sldes and back being raised a distance above the front of the stand and the said sides being perforated, and an adjustable retaining ring in the said stand for engaging the legs of the heater to hold the oil heater in place in the stand.

6. An oil heater protector comprising a box-like stand having legs, the sides and back being raised a distance above the front of the stand and the said sides being perforated, an adjustable retaining ring in the said stand for engaging the legs of the heater to hold the oil heater in place in the stand, and a back extension on the said stand.

7. An oil heater protector comprising a box-like stand having legs, the sides and back being raised a distance above the front of the stand and the said sides being perforated, retaining means in the said stand for holding the oil heater in place in the stand, a back extension, and means for removably securing the said back extension to the said stand.

8. An oil heater protector provided With a platform having depending flanges, a drip opening and elongated slots, angular lugs,

bolts for adjustably securing the horizontal members of the said lugs to the said platform at the said slots, a band having overlapping ends and provided With slots, means for fastening the overlapping ends together, and bolts engaging the said band slots and the vertical members of the said lugs, to adjustably secure the band in place on the said lugs.
