PIVOTED IBIN .v
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 3, 1907.
Application filed August 54 1907- Serial No. 387.190.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, DAVID H. MALONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kelso, in the county of Cowlitz and State of l/Vashington, have invented a new and useful Pivoted Bin, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to pivoted bins and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide a bin having a peculiar arrangement of sides and bottom and which is mounted in a casing and fits snugly therein. The bottom of the bin lies in aplane at an oblique angle to the front and rear sides of the bin, while the lateral sides of the bin depend below the bottom thereof and are formed with edges disposed at obtuse angles to each other with notches at the apices of the said angles. The outer ends of the said obtusely disposed edges terminate at the front and rear edges respectively of the lateral sides of the bin. A support passes transversely across the interior of the casing and,the said notches receive said support whereby the bin is supported upon the depending portions of its A board is hinged at the front edge of the bottom of the casing and fits within the same. Said board is connected by means of a link with one of the lateral sides of the bin and bears against the lower portion of the front of the bin whenthe said bin is housed within the casing. When the bin is swung from under the top of the casing the said board is moved away from and held away from the said bin by the said link and consequently does not mar the surface of the front of the bin. The back of the bin is provided with a pivoted button and the top of the casing is provided with a cross bar which lies in the path of the said button when the same is swung so that its end projects above the upper edge of the bin. Thus when the end of the button is above the end of the bin a means is provided for positively supporting the bin in a tilted position which relieves the other parts of strain.
In the accompanying drawing :Figure 1 is a perspective view of the bin. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same in closed position, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the same in open position.
The casing 1 is preferably rectangular in form and is provided with an opening 2 in its end to one of the ends of the board 11.
front vertical side. The cross bar 3 is located under the top of the casing and forms the upper edge of the opening 2. The rod 3 passes transversely across the lower portion of the casing 1 and is secured at its ends in the sides of the said casing.
The bin 4 is rectangular in horizontal section and fits snugly within the casing 1. The front of the bin is provided with a pull-knob 5. The bottom 6 of the bin is disposed at an oblique angle to the front and rear sides thereof, while the lateral sides of the bin are provided with the depending portions 7 which extend below the bottom 6 of the bin and which are bounded by the edges 8 and 9 which are disposed at obtuse angles to each other. The outer ends of the edges 8 and 9 terminate at the front and rear edges of the lateral sides of the bin. The notches 10 are formed at the apices of the angles between the edges 7 and 9 and the said notches receive the cross rod 3. The board 11 is hinged at its lower edge to the bottom of the casing 1 and the lower side of the opening 2 therein. Said board is equal in length to the transverse dimensions of the opening 2 and is adapted to fit snugly therein. The link 12 is pivotally connected at one end to one of the lateral sides of the bin 4 and at its other Said link is of such lengthand is so pivoted as to hold the upper edge of the board 11 against the lower portion of the front of the bin 4 when the said bin is completely housed within the casing; but when the top of the bin is swung from under the top of the casing the said link 12 moves the upper portion of the board 11 away from the front of the bin and holds the said board away from the bin in order that the board may not scrape along the front of the bin and mar the surface thereof. The button 13 is pivoted to the inner surface of the back of the bin 4 and may be so swung that one of its ends will project beyond the upper ends of the bin. -When this is the case the cross piece 3 will be in the path of the projecting end of the said button and will form a stop for positively limiting the outward swing of the upper end of the bin. Thus, the said button in combination with the said cross piece 3 will relieve the other parts from the strain incident to the weight of the contents of the bin.
When it is desired to remove the bin from the casing the button 13 is swung so that its end wi l be below the upper edge of the bin.
The upper end of the bin is then swung from under the top of the casing and the link 12 is disengaged from the end of the board 11. Thus the said board may be swung down and the bin 4 may be lifted sufficiently to elevate the notches 10 above the cross rod 3 when the said bin 4 may be moved out of the casing 1 through the opening 2 thereof. ble the parts the operation above described is reversed.
Having described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters- Patent is In combination with a casing having a vertically disposed opening and a transversely disposed support, a bin pivotally mounted upon said support, a board hinged to the floor of the casing and operating in the open- To asseming thereof, a link pivotally connected at one end to said board and at its opposite end to the side of the bin at a point located at a greater distance from the floorof the casing than the distance from the said floor to the pivotal connection between said link and the board whereby the board will engage the bin only when the bin is completely Within the casing and will be out of engagement with the bin at other times.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto allixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
DAVID HAZARD MALONE.
