To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK G. Arwoon, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Veterinary Operating-Tables, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in veterinary operating tables, and has for its object, among other things, to provide means whereby the legs of'the animal may be secured at anypoint between the hoof and the body; apply a device that will effectually prevent the accidental disengagement of the sling from the table by the rearing or movement of the horse, as well as to simplify the general construction of a device of this character; and more particularly to increase the'efficiency of the veterinary table invented by me and patented by United States Letters Patent 789,953, issued May 16, 1905.

To these, and other ends, my invention consists in the veterinary operating table having certain details of construction and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawings, in which like numerals of reference designate like parts in the several figures; Figure 1 is a side elevation of an operating table embodying the features of my invention; Fig. 2 is an end elevation looking to the right of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is an end elevation looking to the left of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view thereof, certain of the parts being omitted and others shown in dotted lines; Fig. 5 is an end elevation showing the table tilted, parts of the latter being omitted to avoid confusion; Fig. 6 is a side elevation of the auxiliary supporting device; Fig. 7 is an end elevation thereof Fig. 8 is a front elevation of the sling securing hook; Fig. 9 is a side elevation thereof; and Figs. 10 and 11 are front and side elevations, respectively, of the clamp ring.

In the practice of my invention I construct a veterinary operating table of substantially the same general design as that shown in the Letters Patent above referred to, and for convenience in this description, the side frames are designated 1 and 2, to which are fixed the pintles 3 and 4 journaled in the boxes 5 carried by the standards 6. These end frames are preferably formed of companion angle irons or beams, and each is cut off at one end so they will abut against each other ends of the frames together and uniting them by the tie beam is effective, simple and economical, obviating an additional bendin each one of the companion angle irons; while the angle plate 8 forms a convenient means for assembling the parts with the I beam 9.

The cushion for supporting the horse upon either side thereof is composed of the two plates 12 having the pads 13 thereon which are united by the bars 14, and the auxiliary supporting device comprises the plate 15 having the pad 16 thereon and a bar 17 upon its opposite side which is connected with one of the bars 14 by the tie bars 18. All of these cushions are removably secured to the bar 19 by the clamp arms 20 which are hinged to said bars 1 1 and 17 and after being placed over the bar 19 are permanently secured by the thumb screws 21a Such securing moans makes the attachment or removal of either of the cushions, or auxiliary supporting device, a simple operation, that can be accomplished readily by one person instead of by two as under the old method. The bar 19 is separably secured at both ends to plates 41. by the bolts 42. It has been found advantageous to provide means whereby the leg of the animal may be held at any intermediate point between the body and the hoof to facilitate hoot operations and to hold the leg rigid for operations upon other parts thereof. Said means comprises a bar 22 secured to the plates 12, rings 25 which are slidable upon the bars 26 that extend from the frames 1 and 2 and are separably secured in the laterally projecting arms 27 by the bolts 28, split clamp rings 29 having an eye 31 and laterally projecting ears through which is threaded a thumb screw 30, and the chains 24 which connect the rings 29 and 25. The leg is secured at any intermediate point to any one or more of these chains by suitable straps, and either held in a straight position or doubled as desired by the operator. The rings 25 may be used on the bar 22 if desired, or the rings 29 on the bar 26, within my invention. all of said rings being adapted for use on bars having a circular cross section.

Slidable upon the I beam 9 are the straps 32 and 33 which are held against movement. in one direction by the pins 11. Suspended beneath the straps 32 and 33 by a chain 34 are the two hooks 35 which are provided upon their upper ends with the sheaves 36 which rest upon the chain 34. as shown in Fig. l, and which are rigidly secured together by the tie bar 37. This hook is made preferably of spring metal with a thumb screw 38 passing through the tip end thereof, and threaded into the body. forming a removable closure for the hook, from which the sling 39 is suspended by suitable chains 10.

The table is moved in a rotary path about the pintle 4 by the engagement of the worm 45 with the worm wheel 1-1 fixed on said pintle, the hand Wheel 43 providing means to operate the said worm.

There are minor changes and alterations that can be made within my invention, aside from those herein suggested and I would therefore have it understood that I do not limit myself to the exact construction herein shown and described, but claim all that falls fairly within the spirit and scope of my invention.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In an apparatus of the character described, the combination with a movable table; of a bar connected therewith; a rest cushion, and hinged clamp means for separably securing said cushion to said bar.

2. In an apparatus of the character described, the combination with a movable table of a bar connected therewith; a rest cushion; an auxiliary supporting device; means for connecting the same with said rest cushion; and hinged clamp means for separably securing said rest cushion and auxiliary supporting device to said bar.

3. In an apparatus of the character described, the com bination with a movable table; of a bar connected therewith; a rest cushion; a hinged plate connected with said rest cushion; and means for rigidly securing said hinged plate in its closed position.

4. In an apparatus of the character described, the combination with a movable table; of a rest cushion connected therewith and having a bar fixed thereto; a bar separably connected with said table substantially parallel with said rest cushion and a shiftable connection between said bars.

5. In an apparatus of the character described, the combination with a movable table; of a rest cushion connected therewith and having a bar fixed thereto; a bar separably connected with said table substantially parallel with said rest cushion; and a plurality of chains connecting said bars.

6. In an apparatus of the character described, the combination with a movable table of a rest cushion connected therewith and having a bar fixed thereto; a bar separably connected with said table substantially parallel with said rest cushion; and a flexible connection between said bars.

7. In an apparatus of the character described, the combination with a movable table; of a rest cushion connected therewith and'having a bar fixed thereto; a bar separably connected with said table substantially parallel with said rest cushion; and a flexible connection between said bars slidably secured thereto.

8. In an apparatus of thecharacter described, the com bination with a movable table; of a rest cushion connected therewith; a bar separably connected with said table substantially parallel with said rest cushion; a bar fixed to said cushion; rings shiftable on said bars; and a flexible connection between said rings.

9. In an apparatus of the character described, the combination with a movable table; of a rest cushion connected therewith; a bar separably connected with said table; a bar fixed to said cushion; rings shittable on each of said bars; means for securing said rings in any of their inter mediate positions; and a connection between the rings on one of said bars with the rings upon the other of said bars. 1
