To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, Mlvrnms SCHMITZ, a subject. of the German Emperor, and a resident of Schenectady,

in the county of Schenectady and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Shaving-Brush and Soapdiolder, of which the following is a full, clear,

and exact description.

The object of the invention isto provide a new and fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.

A practical embodimentof the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forminga part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts man the views.-

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improvement, parts being in section; Fig. 2'is a side elevation of the twopart box for carrying the combined brush and soap holder; Fig. 3 is a sectional'plan view of the improvement on the line 3.3 of Fig. 1'; Fig. 4 is a similar view of the same on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1i Fig. 5 is a sectional side elevation oithe soap .stick and its holder,

and Fig. 6 is a sectional side elevation ofa modified form of the fastening device for removably securing the brush to the casing.

The tubular casing A for the combined shaving brush and soap holder carries at one end a brush B, and within the casing A is slidable mounted a holder C supporting a soap stick D adapted to be projected beyond the casing A, at the end opposite the one carrying the brush B, as plainly indicated in Fig. 1. When using the brush B or the soap stick D the casing A forms-the handle, to permit the operator to conveniently mani nllatc the brush and the soap stick for their legitimate purposes.

In order to fasten the brush B axially-in phsition on the casing A, one end of" the latter is provided with in tegial arms A overlapping at the middle of the casing, the overlapped ends of the arms A being engaged by-a rivet 13 held on the butt B of the brush B, so as to secure the brush ll permanently in'place on the arms A of the casing A. Itdesired the brush' B may be removably attached to the arms A, and in this'case see Fig. 6), the overlapped arms A are engaged by a rivet E having an enlarged head in which screws the screw soap stick (see Fig. 1). ,Inorderto permit ready entrance of the soap stick D into the cap C, the outer edge of the side of'the holder is sharpened (see Figs. 1 andb) and on the outside of the holder and at diametrically opposite points are secured lugs G having shanks G for buttons G the shanks G extending through elongated slots H arranged lengthwisein the wall of the casing A, as plainly indicated in the drawings. The slots H are provided at their ends with laterally extending recesses H, H and a similar recess H is at or near the middleoi the slot H. Now by the operation described, the operator having hold of the buttons can turn the holder C and the stick D within the casing A, to move the shanks Gr inv or out of engagement with the recesses H, H When the shanks G are out of the recesses H, H 11, they extend in the slots 11, and the operator can now slide the holder C and the stick D carried thereon in a lengthwise' direction, to either withdraw the'stick D within the casing A or to project the stick D beyond the end of the casing whenever it-is desired to make use of the When the shanks G engage withdrawn within the casing A, and when the soap stick is first used it is only necessary to move the holder C outward until the shanks G engage the recesses H and when the soap stick becomes gradually smaller, the holder 0 is moved further outward and the shanks are engaged with the recesses 11'-. Thus by the arrangement described, the soap stick D can be almost completely used before it is necessary to place a new stick into theholdcrC.
