GARMENT-SUPPORT.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ARTHUR H. HAWK, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Greensburg, in the county of Westmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supports, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in garment supports,. and the primary object of this invention is to provide a garment support or hanger for mens clothes.

My invention aims to provide a coat, vest and trousers support, or hanger, which will retain the garments in proper shape and prevent them from sagging or becoming creased. To this end, I have devised a support or hanger which is entirely constructed of wire, thereby providing a useful article which will be extremely simple in construction, strong and durable, and practically indestructible.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and referring to the drawing accompanying this application, like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in

My improved combination coat and trouser support or hanger is constructed of practically three pieces of wire, one of the pieces of wire being bent into a hookshaped member 1, another piece of the wire being bent into a coat hanger 2 and the fixed member 3 of the trouser support, while the third piece of wire is bent to form the movable member 4 of the trouser support.

vThe piece of wire forming the coat hanger and fixed member 3 of the trouser support is bent to form an archshaped coat hanger consisting of a main strand of wire 6, and parallel auxiliary strands 7, 7. The central portions of the auxiliary strand are bent inwardly as at 8, 8 towards the main strand 6, and are wrapped around the-main strand, as at 9, 9. The two portions of the wire are then bent downwardly towards one another, as at 10, 10, and twisted, as at 11, and the two portions then bent in opposite directions at 12, 12, and then bent inwardly as at 14, to form an oblong loop 14, the

ends of the wire being finally electrically welded together as at 15. The loop 14, which forms the fixed member 3 of the transverse support, is the depending portion of the coat hanger, and consequently remains in a fixed position relative to said hanger. I

In the operation of winding the wire around the main strand 6 as at 9, 9, Iinsert the ends 16, 16 of a hook shaped member 1, this member being constructed by bending a piece of wire upon itself and twisting the parts, as at l7, 17, then bending the wire where doubled to form a hook 18, whereby the coat hanger and trouser support can be suspended from a nail, hook or the like fixture. I

The movable member 4 of the trouser support is formed of a single piece of wire which is bent to form a loop 19, similar to the fixed loop 14 of the trouser support. In bending this loop, an upwardly extending handle 20 is formed, which spans the twisted portion 11 of the coat hanger. To retain the movable member 4 in proper relation to the fixed member 3, the wire forming the loop 14 is bent into small loops or bent portions 21, 21 and these small loops or bent portions of the wire are bent aroundthe uppermost strand 22 ofthe loop .19, as at 23, thus properly holding the loop 19 in swinging position relative to the loop 14.

A clasp consisting of a link 24 is loosely mounted upon the twisted portion ll of the trouser support, said link embracing the handle 20 of the movable member 4. When the loops 14 and 19 coincide with oneanother, as illustrated in Fig. 4, the link is moved upwardly upon the handle 20 and the twisted portion 11 of the trouser support to retain the loops 14 and 19 in engagement with one another, said link or clasp remaining at the lower end of the twisted portion 11 and the handle 20 when the loops are opened to receive the lower ends of a pair of trousers.

The hook shaped member 1 is preferably arranged somewhat loosely in the wrapped ends 9, 9 of the main strand whereby the entire support or hanger can be easily suspended from a fixture. It will of course be understood how a coat is placed upon the hanger, also how the lower ends of a pair of trousers are clamped between the loops 14 and 19, to hold them in a suspended position.

It will be noted that various changes in the construction of my improved hanger or support may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent,

A device of the class described comprising a coat supporting portion formed from a single piece of wire bent into a main continuous strand and a parallel auxiliary strand, the latter bent at its center toward the main strand and coiled around the same at two points spaced apart and the portion of the wire converging and entwisted and bent into an elongated loop and forming one side of a trouser supporting member, said elongated loop having small loops in one of its sides adjacent to the entwisted portion and bent into holding means, a suspension means formed from a single ,piece of .Wire bent upon itself centrally into a hook with the sides entwisted and the two portions bent in opposite directions and in serted through the spaced coils of the coat supporting portion, an elongated loop of Wire forming the other side of said trouser holding means and movably engaging said [0 holding means and provided with a handle bent from one side and embracing the connecting twisted portion between said coat supporting means and the stationary trouser supporting member, anda link bearing over said connecting twisted portion and said handle portion.
