Description
einem satagaat' @aan WILLIAM BANIS'IER, OF BOSTN, MASSACHUSETTS. Letters Patent No. 86,494, dated February 2, 1869.
IMPRovnD LACING FOR Boo'rs.
www
To all whom 'it may concern: s
' Be it known that I, WILLIAM BAN'ISTER, of Boston,
county of Suffolk, and State of Massachusetts, have made a new and useful Improvement in Device for Lacing Boots and Shoes; and I' do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification.
Thisinvention consists of a peculiar metallic loop for boot and shoe-lacing, made of flat strips of metal bent into the desired form, having at'bearings upon the surface of the leather, and ends which are passed through, and clinched upon the inside by being bent over 'in opposite directions.
lhe bearings are formed at right angles to the points intersecting the leather. 4
Figure 2 shows a perspective view of my improved loop or fastening, 'as applied to a boot or shoe.
Figure l shows a section of leather with the loop attached.
Figure 3 shows a modification of the same, gs. l and 2.
Thisv loop is attached to the boot and shoe inthe following manner:
A hole is pierced in the leather, into which the ends of the loop are inserted. They are then bent in opposite directions, parallel to its outer bearings, against which they are firmly pressed.
Figure 3 shows a loop secured by inserting the two ends throughdiiferent incisions in the leather, and bending them toward each other.
The flat bearings of these loops along the surface of the leather prevent them from tipping, and keep them always in an upright position, so that the string or lacing passes through the eye freely.
I make the inner surface of the eye of the loop con- Vex, in order that thefedges may not cut or wear the string or lacing.
The button O is applied to the string or lacing, to aid in drawing it out before loosening it.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- Ihe loop B, constructed, arranged, and applied as herein. described and for the purposes set forth.
WILLIAM BANISIER.
