Description

te stimmt TIMOTHY ROGERS AND DAVID THOMPsoN, OF FREDERIOKT tant @tutti @ttl OHIO.
Leners Patent No. 86,455, ma Fama@ 2, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHOIEEINC-IDEVICE.
The Schedule referred tc .in these Letters Patent making pari: of the same.
To all whom 'it may concern a perspective 'view'ot' our invention.
lThe nature of ourinvention consists in constructing a device iorrfaeilitating the shoeing of horses, of' a hollow post, securely held in place at its lower end, in a hoard acting a base, and supplied on its internal portion with a serrated bar, provided at its upper end with a lrorse-shoe-shaped block, and operated, or lraised and lowered, by means of a pawl, lever, and spring, substantially as hereinafter set forth.
To enable others to rnake and'use ourinvention, we will now give a description of its construction and operation.
ln the aceonilrran'ving drawingrepresents a hollow post, which ismortisedinto n. bon-rd orbase, B, at its lower end, and provided on one side. with a staple-like device, u, for Vremoving it, when desired.
C rep1 .-sents a bar, sliding up and down within the post A. and supplied at its upper end witha block, Vc, nnnlesoas to suit'the shape ofthe bottom ofthe horses shoe, which is designed to rest thereon while being shed.`
This bar C is eut on eaell-sdewith a groove, c, extending nearly its entire length, and engaging with proieetions c 0, seein-'ed inthe upper end of the post A, the object of which is to allow the bar O to be slid `up and down, and at the same time prevent it-irem leaving its place.
The bar Gis also provided, on its front part, with a serrated metal plate, c3, of suitable length, Vand set in a groove cut thereon.
D is a lever, pivoted to the-outer side of thepost A,
and between two projections, Z l, entering which is a pin, passing through the lever D.
To the upper end of this lever is hinged orpivoted a pawl, d', which engages with the serrationson the metal plate. c3 of sliding bar G, said. pawl being made to pass through the post A, and in' contact with the bar C.
By means of this arrangement, 'the post or bar O, when raised or lowered, can' bev securely `held at the desired point, the lever D being assisted by a spring,
n e, secured at its upper'endto the post A, directly Opposite the point where the lever D is pivoted, and pressing at its opposite end against jthe'lower end of the said lever.
Having thus described our invention,
.What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The hollow post A, supplied with the board or base, B, and staple ,vin combination `with the sliding serrated bar '0, horse-shoe-shaped block c, projections c2 ci, lever D, pawl cl, andspr-ing e, all constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth.-
In testimony that we clairn the foregoing as our own, we affix our signatures, in presence of'twe Witnesses.
TIMOTHY ROGERS. -DAVID THOMPSON.
