Description

G. BQISHAM. Q Cooking Apparatus. No. 85,934.- Patented Jan.'19, 1869 Fizz eases. I Z7Z VWZZVK' g 7%.7 w J6 N. PETERS, PHUTO-LITNDGRAPHER, WASHINGTON D C To all whom it may cancer-n:
ar a- PORTABLE COOKING-APPARATUS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Be it known that I, GrEORGE B. IsHAM, of the city of Burlington, in the county of Ghittenden, and State of Vermont, have invented an Improvement in Portable Cooking-Apparatus; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being hadto the accompanying drawing, and the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention or improvement consists in constructing a cooking-apparatus, to use in the pothole .of any-size stove or range, and so formed as to allow the fire to be made immediately on the bottom grate of the stove or range, or in the apparatus itself; as also in the manner of controlling the draught.
To enable others to make and use my invention, I will describe its construction and operation.
I construct, of suitable metals, the perforated rim A, Figure 1, and the elongated external fire-pot B, fig. 1, with open bottom, either in one piece or two, in the form as shown, forming the bail-ears I) .D and the damper-stops O G thereon.
I construct the pelforated internal combination firepot and dampers, with the bevel-arms F F F, and the perforated detachable bottom E, of suitable metal, and i in the form as shown by Figure 2.
I construct the perforated disk, Figure 3, and the cover, Figure 4, of suitable materials, and in the form as shown.
My improvement can be used in direct connection with the grate of the stove or range, being constructed long enough for that purpose, by taking out the internal fire-pot, fig. 2, and building the fire (any kind) directly on the stove or range-grate, using the stove or range-dampers to'regulate the draught; or it can be used independent of the stove or range-grate and dampers, by inserting the internal fire-pot, fig. 2, building the fire (any kind) on top of the perforated-bottom E,
and using the internal fire-pot for dampers, by sliding it around until the ribs G G G, fig. 2, come opposite V the spaces H H H, fig. 1.
The checks or stops 0 O, fig. 1, are for the purpose of preventing the arms F F F, fig. 2, being displaced.
The action of the draught through the apparatus is in this wise: entering over the top of the stove or range, into the fire-pots, through the apertures K K Kin the rim A, fig. 1, down the inside of the fire-pots, through the fuel, and out into the stove or range, through the bottom and lower part of the sides of the fire-pots.
-When the internal fire-pot is in use, the draught can be governed so as to pass directly to the bottom of same, and out through the perforated portable or detachable bottom, E, fig. 2.
The perforated disk, fig. 3, is used in connection with the cover, fig. 4, for the purpose'of supporting and 1] eating flat-irons, baking, broiling, 850., the whole forming a complete cooking-apparatus that will burn any and all kinds of fuel, from chips to hard coal, without escapement of 'either gas or smoke, and Without tainting the articles cooked in it.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The elongated perforated fire-pot B, fig. 1, with the bail-ears D D and damper-stops O O thereon, and the peiforated rim A, fig. 1, when made all as herein described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. The perforated internalcombination fire-pot and dampers, fig. 2, with the' arms F F F, and the detach-- able perfbrated bottom E, all as herein described, and
for the purpose set forth.
