ROLLIE BEE CENTERS, OF PINE RIDGE, SOUTH DAKOTA.
HARNESS-BUCKLE.
Speccaton of Letters Patent.
Patented June 25, 1907.
Application filed June 27,1906. Serial No. 323,651.
To all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, RoLLiE BEE CENTERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pine Ridge, in the county of Shannon, State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness- Buckles g and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. y
This invention having relation to harness buckles is designed to provide a device in which the tongue or holding element of the strap will be housed within the frame and its outlines so that it will not be liable to be caught upon other parts and thus become loosed or broken. There are other features in its construction that enhance its efficiency and the convenience with which it may be oper-v ated, as will presently appear.
The nature of the invention is to be fully understood from the annexed drawings, forming a part of this specification, taken in connection with the following detailed description disclosing the construction and mode of operation of the invention, the latter being pointed out with particularity in the subjoined claim.
Of the said drawings, Figure l is a plan view of the invention, the strap being buckled by the device. Fig. 2 is a transverse section. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view.
Similarfigures of reference designate similar parts or features, as the case maybe, Whereever they occur.
In the drawings, 5 5 designate the side bars of the buckle, across the forward ends of which there extends a kee er bar 6, under which the end 7 of the buck ed strap may be passed. 8 designates a guard plate disposed across the rearward ends of the side-bars and rounded on its top so that it may not present any corners or points to catch upon other parts of the harness, fly-nets or blanket. At the rear end the side bars project slightly, and across this projection there extends a rounded bar 9, around which the loop 10 of a strap independent of that buckled by the device may extend or be lapped. The inner side of each side bar is provided with a groove 1 1 into which the ends of a bar 12 extend, the said bar being provided on its upper side with a vertical tongue 13, that enters one of the holes 14 made in the strap 15 to be buckled.
In use, the end of the strap 15will be passed from right to left (as shown in the drawings) under the guard plate 8 to the position desired, when the tongue 13 on the bar 12 will be passed through one of the holes 14 of the strap, and the said bar will be moved backward, or to the right, as viewed in the drawings, so that the tongue will be under the guard plate 6 thus holding the strap positively in place. The tongue 13 will be long enough to nearly reach the top of the guard plate, and the grooves 1l will terminate short of the forward end of the buckle so that the tongue bar 12 cannot be drawn out of its grooves and so, also, that the strap will stop in the buckle at a predeterminate point. There is no connection between the side-bars intermediate of their ends; so that the manipulation of the ends of the straps and the tongue-slide is free from obstruction.
A buckle having the structural character described may be readily employed, is strong and durable, will operate positively and is not liable to catch upon other parts and become damaged or damage other parts of the harness.
What isclaimed as the invention, is
1. A harness buckle consisting of the side bars longitudinally grooved on their inner sides, a plate adapted at its ends to slide in the said grooves and provided on its upper side with a vertical tongue, a guard plate at the forward end rounded on top and extending across the upper edges of the side bars under which the tongue bar stops when the tongue is engaged withastrap, astrap-attaching bar at the rear, and a keeper bar.
2. A harness-buckle, comprising side-bars grooved on their inner sides from near their ends, said side-bars being connected at their ends and open and freeV of connections centrally, a tongue plate adapted at its ends to slide in said grooves, a guard plate at the rearward end, a cross-bar below said guard plate, and a housing plate across the top portions of the side-bars rounded on top, under which the tongue-bar is stopped in predeterminate position,
In testimony whereof, I a'llix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
