Be it known that I, J ()IIN Russian. ROACH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cale, in the county oi Martin and State of Indians, have invented a new and useful Improvement .in Faeroe-Posts ,or Telephone- Poles, of which the following is a specification. I This invention relates generally to fence posts although it can be used equallyas well for telephone or telegraph pole, the object of the invention being to provide a strong and durable sheet metal post formed from a single piece and provided with means for receiving and holding strands of wire.

Another object of my invention is to provide a brace which is adapted to be interlocked with the base of the post and serve to the same in an upright position.

With these objects in view 'the invention consists essentially in forming a post form a single blank of sheet metal, said blank being rolled to substantially cylindrical form, one edge overlapping; said overlapping edge being apertured and slit tor the purpose of receiving and securing the wire-strands,- the base ortion of the blank being split, thereby providing two sections, each section being flanged for the purpose of rc-inlorcing the lower end of the post, and the extreme end of the lower-end beingbentoutwardly to provide a base. I The invention consists also in providing a sheet metal brace having a dove-tail head ada ted to interlockwiththe lower portion of t e. post and also having a base or foot piece.

The invention consists also in certain features of construction and novelties of combination all (-i, which will be fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claims.

Ordinarily, if the device is used as a fence post the brace is attached thereto and the hole is'large enough to receive both the base portion and the brace as most clearly shown in Fig. 1 and the entire baseportion and brace are completely covered with earth. The wires are connected as already explained and whenever it is desired to dis-connect any wires it can be accomplished by opening the slot as shown in Fig. 7. When the device is used as a pole for telephones or otherwise, all the parts are securely s iked to any fixed object.

1, A tubular post formed from a single piece of sheet metal and having longitudinally projecting edge, saidedge being apertured and slotted, the lower portion of the post being bifurcated, each member having re-inforced flanges and laterally projecting base portions, and a member having a head j portion adapted to engage the bifurcated j head portion of the post substantially as described.

2. A fence post formed from a single piece of sheet metal tubular in form having a longitudinally projecting edge, said edge being apertured and slotted as described, lower [portion of the post being bifurcated, each member having reinforcing flanges and a laterally projecting base portion, said baseportion being apertured and a brace having a dove-tail head and an apertured base all arranged and adapted to operate substantially as set forth.
