To all whom it mu/y concern;
Be it known that I, GEORGE EDWIN NOLAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chehalis, in the county of Lewis and State of Washington, have invented certain .new and useful Improvements in Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates more pa ticularly to dose measuring bottles for medicines and has for its objectto producea bottle of this character which is simple, easy of manufacture and which eliminates the necessity of a spoon or other separate measuring device.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a bottle embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical central sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the bottle partially inverted and broken away.
1 represents a bottle, the main body of which may be of any preferred or usual style. The top of the bottle is rounded as at 2 and merges into one side of the bottle. The other side of the bottle has molded integral with it a suitable (lose measuring device 3 which is concaved, the straight upper edge of which is on a line with the lowermost point of the discharge opening 4. The measuring device 3 extends entirely across the bottle and closes the'top of the same, with the exception of the space 5 between the inner end of the device 3 and the side wall of the bottle. The discharge opening 4 opens to one side of the bottle as is shown in Fig. 2.
6 is a cork adapted to seal the'bottle. While I have not shown graduation marks on the dose receptacle 3, it is of course obvious that such marks may be etched thereon. 'As there are a number of pre arations laced on the market with a prescri ed dose,

with dosdreceptacles made of the prescribed size for a specified medicine. For instance, some bottles may have receptacles having the capacity of a tea-spoon, while other bott les will have the dose receptacle of a capacity equal to that of a table-spoon and so on.
The bottle is easily filled. After the bottle has been filled and it is desired to take a dose of medicine therefrom, all that is necessary is to invert the bottle so as to permit the contents to flow to the top thereof and then restore the bottle to its normal position, whereupon all surplus fluid will flow from the dose receptacle back again into the bottle, thus leaving the prescribed dose within the receptacle 3, whereupon the cork 6 is removed, the discharge opening 4-placed to the lips and the bottle tilted until the contents of the dose receptacle have been taken. The bottom of the dose receptacle forms a partition across the bottle.which prevents the balance of. the material flowing from the top of the bottle, when the bottle is tilted for thepurpose of taking a dose of medicinev It will of course be readily understood that my improvement may be adapted for round bottles as well as square and flat bottles.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A bottle having a closed top a side discharge opening and a dose measuring receptacle within the bottle integral with the side wall thereof, the top of which is in line with the lowermost line of the discharge opening.
