FOLDING STRETCHER.

Be it known that I, vWERNER UTZINGER, doctor of philosophy and solicitor, a citizen of the Swiss Confederation, and a resident of Zurich, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful. Improvements in Foldable Ambulanee-Litters, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to ambulance-litters made in two parts, which being hingedly connected can be quickly separated and folded together, the legs and their stays being adapted to be turned up and placed flat against the poles.

In the accompanying drawings the improved ambulance-litter is shown by way of example in Figure I in a side view, in Fig. 2 in ground plan, and in Fig. 3 in vertical section and in the position ready for use. Fig. 4 is a view of the ambulance-litter folded together.

The canvas forming part of the ambulancelitter is not shown in the drawing.

The improved ambulance-litter is constructed as follows: The poles a to which the canvas is to be attached are made in two separate parts, which are connected by a l1ook-joint I), which is easy to unlock. For each pole-half a one leg c is provided, which is pivoted to the pole by a pivot u, forming part of the iron hooping e, or rigidly fixed to said hooping by rivets or in any other suitable manner. A movable ring d placed over the leg c is adapted to be pushed over the pivot for securing leg c in its vertical position. The opposite legs c of two pole-halves a are connected by a stay arrangement, which in stretched position prevents the movement of rings cl, so that the legs can be folded only when the stay arrangement has been previously folded together. The stay arrangement consists of the cross-bars f g and k l, pivoted at s 1^ and o p, respectively, to the legs c and at h and m '71 respectively, to a vertical stay t. A slide t is provided on the top cross-bars f g for securing the stays in stretched position.

To fold together the ambulance-litter, the hook-joints b are unlocked and the slides '5 of the stays are moved to the left, Fig. 3. The vertical stay i is then pulled in the direction of the arrow, Fig. 3, so that the corresponding pole-halves a, are pulled toward one another, as shown in Fig. 4. The locking-rings d are now pushed away from pivots u and the legs c with the folded stays turned so that they lie iiat against the poles a.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is*

An improved foldable ambulance-litter comprising in combination poles made in two separated halves, hook-joints for hingedly connecting said pole-halves, a leg hinged to each pole-half, two cross-stays pivoted with one end to the corresponding leg, a vertical middle stay to which the inner ends of the cross-bars are pivoted, a slide on the top cross-bars for securing the stays in stretched position and movable rings on the legs for covering the hinges of the legs and securing same in vertical position, substantially as described and shown and for the purpose set forth.
