To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, HUGO ROSENBERG, a subject of the German Emperor, residing in Berlin, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Containers for Surgical Ligatures, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to containers for surgical ligatures of catgut or other substances; and the object of the invention is to provide a container which will preserve the ligature in aseptic condition until the same is desired for use, when it may be readily removed from the container. WVith this end in view the invention consists in a ligature-container constructed in the manner to be hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, in which the same parts are denoted by the same reference characters in the two figures, Figure 1 shows in longitudinal section a ligature-container before the ligature is completely inclosed in the same, and Fig. 2 is a similar section showing the device as it is placed upon the market.

A glass vessel is employed comprising a tubular portion 1), having at one end a reduced portion or neck 0, beyond which is a bulb or wider part (1, integral therewith. After the ligature has been placed in the glass container the latter is sealed up at both ends in some convenient manner, the vessel being, if desired, first filled with alcohol or other suitable liquid. The vessel may now be subjected to the temperature necessary to render the ligature within it thoroughly aseptic by treatment in. a suitable boiler or in some other manner.

When it is desired to use the ligature, the neck of the glass container is broken at the reduced part 0, when the ligature can be withdrawn by taking hold of the part 6, the knot being retained. in the part d, integral therewith.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A container for ligatures comprising a glass vessel closed at one end and provided near the opposite end with a reduced portion or neck, an enlarged knot-receiving portion formed integral with the vessel beyond said neck, and a closed tubular portion formed integral with said enlarged knot-receiving portion and extending beyond the same.
